I would definitely not go any lower than 80Hz for the centre and surrounds. It's a toss-up when it comes to the mains. I would try crossing them at 80Hz, then setting them to "large" and see what's preferable.

If it's a big room, going "large" for the mains might be better. On the other hand, leaving everything at 80Hz will take some load off the AVR.

Oh, by the way, is the "shift" key broken on your computer?:D:D

I have to disagree. Unless your mains have better LF response than your sub (in which case: sell the sub), I cannot envision a time I'd want to set them for "large".

If you can find a response graph for your speakers, and preferably also for your sub, you'd set the crossover at the lowest freq. where the response is near optimal on the speakers.

The THX standard is 90hz, and it's generally a good place to start experimenting.

I think it's more of a nitpick than a disagreement.;)

I only suggested the possibility of going "large" with the mains, if it's a large room, to supplement the sub. Of course his mains won't reach as low as that sub. I have my own mains set to small.

And, "not going any lower than 80Hz for the centre and surrounds" does not disagree with "The THX standard is 90hz".

My bad, I was unclear. I did not mean that portion of my comment to be seen to be a disagreement with yours. I was only disagreeing on the large/small issue.

That's OK, but I actually didn't advocate going "large" with the mains - I merely suggested that the OP try it both ways, in order to determine what sound he prefered. If he was using small bookshelves, it would be a no-brainer. But the Monitor 11 has a -3dB point of 32Hz, according to the Paradigm website. If it's even close to that, there's no reason he shouldn't take advantage of that capability, if that's a preference.

Personally, and as stated before, I prefer my mains set to small. I find the bass a bit too overwhelming when using a subwoofer and the mains set to large. But most of all, it can add a substantial (and unnecessary) load to the AVR.
