So I would like to know if the power supply for a Dell 3300mp will work in my broken 3400mp? I have looked around a lot, it seams like it should work no problem, but i can't find any real hard evidence showing this. The lumen's are the same, the projectors are the exact same size, and the connector on the bulb's are the same. So what do you guys think?

According to one of the guys that posts a bunch at another site, Dell is notorious for being horrendous. Parts are generally unavailable, and they are made from the cheapest possible manufacturer from year to year and model to model with little to no consistency in manufacturing whatsoever.

At the end of the day, you have to pull out the power supply and look for actual power ratings and connections, etc. then maybe you will get your answer, but it isn't likely that anyone from Dell can help you or give you a good answer and you aren't going to get it without opening up the cases and checking yourself.

Wattage means very little when it comes to the power supply in use.

well my problem is that i do not have the 3300 in my possession at the moment, i would like to know before i go buy one with a cracked lens for $50. and i am capable of fixing the power supply myself, but i cannot find any usable part numbers on any of the components of the power supply, the power supply itself does work but the ballast that fires up the bulb isn't working.

Yes, this is the problem with Dell projectors. The only service they offer is through Dell service. You won't get a manual, you will not get specifications, they will not help you either. :(

Very frustrating.

yes i realize this, and that is why i am asking through here. I know someone somewhere has to know what the parts are. Someone has to of taken one of these apart and fixed it in the past, since this is a common problem. I just want to know where i can get a new ballast for this projector.

Unfortunately, it would really suprise me. I rarely suggest people go elsewhere, but AVS has a few more roots that might be worth touching on.

I can say that at Projector Central's forums, there are a few service technicians that visit and they swear that Dell is the most worthless brand to deal with because they can't get service manuals, can't get parts, and if anyone ever calls Dell, they don't get any help either.

I recommend people stick the the Dell PCs, because other than price, their projectors are horrendous.

I do hope you find an answer, but after listening to people express their knowledge on projectors, for years, I'm saying that you are not likely to get an answer - but I sure hope you do.

Good luck!

Projector parts are not universally interchangeable. You will have to find THE one that is DESIGNED for your model(s). As far as which assembly is the ballast, it is the one with the heavy leads going to the lamp.

As posted elsewhere, you will get NO help from Dell. No manuals, no parts, no schematics, no information. They are useless. In fact, very few manufacturers even have schematics for their projectors, most replace the assembly instead of performing component-level repair.

I understand you're capable of repair. So am I, as an a/v tech with 25+ years of experience, but if NO information is available and the really significant components are proprietary and unavailable and some of those are SMD, what can you do?

It's going to take someone with a 3300 that has opened it or is willing to do so just to get the part numbers of the ballast to compare to yours. That's the way it is. Either that or gamble the $50 to get the damaged 3300 and hope it works.

And in all my searching I have yet to find a source for Dell parts. And I could really use them, I have 3 2400MPs in my shop that are destined for the dumpster because I can't get the simple parts to repair them. Color wheels, that's all I need, but they are not be found anywhere.
