Boooooo. Why is Watergate so special that it's legacy is attached to everything that happens from Tiger Woods to the Earth warming/cooling?

I mean things like this have happened before... why isnt everything called "Scandal + your pick of damning references to Caligula and the Julio-Claudian Dynasty"?

Well, "-gate" just has a ring to it. It's also nice and short at one syllable. The "Tiger-Julio-Claudian Dynasty" just doesn't flow as well to me. :p

I'm waiting on Alex-gate, myself. :D

Well, if we're going to stick with it, I propose retroactively applying -gate:

Jesusgate, Caesargate, Helen of Troygate, Henry VII-gate...

Well, it is a "secrets coming to light in the media" parallel.

But mostly cause it makes a good soundbyte.

I dislike it, too. Can we call the problem "Gategate"?

Cover-gate

Sean Connery: Well, the game is afoot. I'll take anal bum cover for 7,000.

Alex Trebek: That's An album cover, not anal bum cover.

Sean Connery: I can read, Trebek. That says Anal bum cover. I've spent five years of my life trying to invent an anal bum cover, failing to do so is my greatest regret.

Thanks, it took me all day at work to come up with the idea.
Thanks for making me feel like an old man . I was in my early 20s during Watergate and I remember it fondly.

Where ever you went in Washington you could find street vendors selling posters with photos of Nixon looking like the mug shots in the wanted by the FBI posters, only they read "Wanted - Un-Indicted Co-Conspirator".

My favorite was the bumper sticker with a picture of the White House and the words, "Honk if you think he's guilty". I had one on my car and I got lots of honks :D.

You probably got a good chuckle over the name of the informant, too. ;) :D
Now that you mention it… because of Watergate, it was OK to say Deep Throat in public.

That's probably Nixon's lasting legacy ;).
