Small low cost amp?

I need a small, low cost amp. I am moving away from a big set up in the living room. I basically want to run my Oppo (981) to the amp (and TV) to my Infinity Primus 360s. The amp/Oppo can be used for volume control.

I don't need tons of headroom. This is for background music and movies at regular listening levels. Something preferably that doesn't have a lot of heat generation so it can be in a cabinet.

Any suggestions? Also, if you see a problem with this plan, let me know :).

Are we talking DIY(http://www.41hz.com/shop/item.asp?catid=15&itemid=575) or commercial here.

I plan to undertake some DIY ones when I get the space to do it.

No interest in DIY. The hardware required to properly test the outcome of a DIY amp is excessive...even for me :p.

I have always liked my zone 3 amp. I paid $53 for a refurb and it has been going strong for almost 3 years.

Does it need a lot of space or does it run pretty cool?

I'm just looking for ways to cut costs and excuses for more toys.
If it's a Class D amp you bet it's stone cold. I imagine it is given the price. But I think you'd be fine either way.

I don't know. I hooked it up and threw it behind the credenza, standing on it's end and never looked at it again.

Doesn't surprise me in the least :p.

Anyone else have a suggestion? A low cost stereo receiver will also work. No need to process video.

You might see if Harman Audio on ebay still has any 3390 receivers. I picked one up for $128 plus shipping. It was supposed to be refurbished but it looked brand new when I got it - still sealed in plastic with the plastic on the face - and that brand new never been turned on electronics smell.
It sounds great and has plenty of power for my 4ohm speakers.

The Onkyo 8255 is the only other one I can think of for cheap.

I have a Parasound HCA750A that I use for two channel. They come up used quite often for around $150-$175. It looks good, feels good, and has that chewey midrange. ;)
