Some background: I own a very modest av system, which only recently I upgraded ( details in my Sig). Also I live in one bedroom apt on 4th floor of 7 floor building.

Today then I came home from work around 7:30pm I noticed unusually loud music playing almost at uncomfortable levels from my neighbors above me.
Now, my building is not typically known to have paper thin walls, so I assume they have been playing their stuff (care guess? Yes, you got it right -a very old folk songs) loud loudly.

I turned on my system to modest volume -25db , only slightly typical -30db - which is more than enough to watch tv.

Now to my surprise , the music upstairs gets even louder - and frankly beginning to annoy me....

Well, short story told even shorter : After Avatar Trailer (Dolby D) at -12db, all loud music upstairs stopped at which point I turned down my system back to typical -30db...

Lesson learned gents. [ me = ebil grin ]

p.s: Afternote - It was the first time I drove system this loud , and it didn't braked a sweat - very pleasant surprise !! Kudos to Tom - You are the man and thanks for great review !

Such ego competitions are foolish and immature... unless you win :)

Perhaps they had guests over and were showing off THEIR new system. :) If you don't hear them very often, maybe let them enjoy it.

Congrats on the new system, btw!

I wondered who lived below me. When I realized you didn't like my music, I turned the volume down.

Seriously, BoredSysAdmin sounds like you have a kick *ss system--very nice. The only bad thing.. I am not sure you and I have the same music tastes -- my tastes might be closer to your upstairs neighbor :D

TAKE CARE AND KEEP UP THE GOOD POSTING,

Well, I kinda see now it was a bit immature and childish, I guess I kinda regret it now, however....
I guess I was too vague about what type music my neighbors were actually listening too, I said folk, but in reality it was very old Russian pop...
Forestmen - sorry, I don't think you'd like it :)
About my music choices - Avatar got really nothing to do with them - it just on TV on FX-HD channel I was watching....

My music choice would be anything from Led Zeppelin to Arch Enemy...
My typical speakers audio test is usually "Wish you there here" (the song) - especially the opening...

Arch Enemy huh? I think their guitarists and drummer are amazing, but I just can't get past the chick singer's screaming. Static-X is about as heavy as I like to get with my rock.

Lol, Screaming chick is the whole point - Imho it's amazing and hilarious at the same time! lol
You'd prolly like more guys screaming - like Amon Amarth, Lamb of God etc... ;)

You should go upstairs, become friends, and rock out together.

Headbangers and folk rockers don't mix... separate water fountains and everything. ;)

(I don't know he's a headbanger: I just know he's said he's not a folk rocker... stretching the truth is ok if it's funny, right?)

I listen to everything from death metal to country so I wouldn't label them just yet. ;)

While in college living in the dorms, everyone on my floor had awesome systems (late 80's early 90's) so one day we all had a radio war to determine who was king. Needless to say the cops came and we were told our "ruckus" could be heard 1/4 mile away disturbing classes. :D

At least you didn't get a lecture about how playing with rocket fuel could leave you left handed for life. While being left handed. (happened to a college friend when he blew up a bucket)
