This bass management is killing me. The more I read the more I'm confused.

I have a Yamaha RX-V420 reciever(old) no HDMI. I can hook up audio to the 6channel input from my Lg BD390 but from what all I've read I may not get bass or the right amount of bass. My question is, what will I be missing from a sound standpoint if I just use my optical cable. Are the sound tracks that much better on Blu Ray movies that I would be lousing out.

I know its bad when you have to have the guy from the electronics store where you bought your stuff come and hook it up for you. But like my user name states I am audio dumb.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Before I got my new reciever this summer with HDMI, I connected my blu-ray player using the optical digital audio connection. Sounded great to me. When I went from the lossy codecs over optical (e.g. Dolby Digital, DTS) to the lossless codecs over HDMI (e.g. Dolby TrueHD), I didn't notice any huge difference.

So, my vote is for the optical connection.
