Sorry to hear Isiberian. Because of the economy, there seems to be more violence happening; we had armed robbery at the Wal-Mart located a mile from me a couple of nights ago.

I'm sorry for your loss. I remember when one of my teachers committed suicide. It is difficult.

However we need to remind ourselves in these all too common tragedies, that the issue is guns.

In all my years as a physician, I never saw a treated an individual shot or killed by a gun owner while committing a crime. I did however, have plenty of cases where gun owner killed themselves or family member with guns on purpose or by accident. The accidental shooting of children is particularly hard to take.

We need to confront the nonsense about guns in this country, that has been spoken since its founding.

The only way to make guns hard to get is to make it impossible by confiscating them, which will never happen. Gun laws don't work because the people who are committing the crimes with guns don't usually buy them legally. If someone wants a gun, they can get one without going to a gun dealer and it's probably faster. People are too reactive and too willing to pump lead into someone else for reasons that don't warrant it. Self defense can be a legitimate reason unless the person chases the dead guy down after being confronted but I can't think of a single reason for anyone to use a gun, otherwise.

I have known far too many who killed themselves with guns and all had some kind of problem they couldn't find another way out of. If they couldn't have gotten a gun, I'm sure they would have found another way like the others I knew who committed suicide.

I'm sorry to read this. It's not easy when you know the victim and it's impossible to really understand why it happened, even after reading the explanation after the wife is interviewed. You might want to get together with some of the others who knew him and just be there for each other.
