Interesting becuase I don't detect any motion blur in my action DVDs at all. And yes the ***HZ gimmick does work ..thats why I don't see the motion blur ;)
That's because the ***Hz thing forces the video to play at a faster framerate and makes everything look sped up which generally looks really fake & cheesy, but I guess that works for some people. Personally I'm happy with watching movies as the director intended at 24 fps.

True, the blur is rarely noticeable in movies, but in games where you have total control over the camera... it's fairly noticeable and I have really low vison to boot. Not sure about sports but I'd imagine it wouldn't be too pretty.

The blur isn't bad enough to ruin the content your watching, but then again I've never spent time with a plasma so I don't really know what I'm missing, or not missing.

Hz doesn't really have much to do with blur, as it might with "flicker". 120 is a good number simply because 3:2 pulldown is avoided, and it's high enough where flicker is a non-issue.

The "gimmick" with LCD panels is "frame interpolation". This is a completely separate thing. Different manufacturers will often allow different settings such as low, medium, high.

There is a thing called "motion resolution" that I recently posted about right here:

"While you can see the A550 LCD fared the worst, the other LCDs did just as badly when frame interpolation was disabled. Even the CNET editors mention that they find this tech to be inappropriate for film (24p). Lastly, who knows how much better artifacting has become with FI, but one can be sure that the more motion there is, the higher chances of artifacting."

Ok, but why would they need to eliminate flicker on LCD/plasma? Since they're progessive scan there really isn't any flicker to begin with; unless maybe if you go too low like at 48hz? I thought the reason for Hz stuff was judder elimination.

CNEt doesn't test for motion resolution using games AFAIK, that is where it can become very noticeable; especially if you're looking for it. They should also do comparisons to a good HDTV CRT, just for the sake of testing.

I think you just said what I just said. Avoid judder. High enough frame rate where flicker is a non-issue. Perhaps the latter is just an incidental result from focusing on judder elimination, but that doesn't mean the advantage is not there.

Anyways, the more I think about it, the more I wonder if some sort of minimal FI is simply part of the default, undefeatable, with the VP in some LCD tv's.

One thing I want to point out (which I first heard from allargon a while back) is that just because the native frame rate is 120hz doesn't necessarily mean judder is avoided, at least with older rip-you-off with the whizbang-catch-phrase televisions. 120hz, but none of the real benefit. How's that? There were TVs made that still applied 3:2 pulldown, and then simply another 2:2 to get to 120hz. How's that for bullshit?

I'll be upgrading to a new led in a few months and almost considered a pioneer elite plasma but the heat a plasma throws off is unreal when I walked into a room with all plasmas it was like walking into a oven and the other room with just led and lcds was actually cold. When I walked up to the plasmas at about 5 inches away I put my hand out and could feel the heat it generated  They would make great heaters though ;) That and the weight of the plasma really turned me off not that i'd be moving it often but man those things are fricken heavy. I like the looks of the Samsung 8 series led it has a great picture and is very thin . The Black levels look good enough for me and the picture is so vivid , yup I think im sold on the Samsung led 55" 8 series for around 4500 I think is a good price. But this is just the begining of my research and my journey . So to all you plasma lovers out there I say this :p ;) :D I really dont see that big of a difference in picture quality between the plasma vs the led of course maybe if they were side by side but fortunately I wont have one of each in my HT room ; ) The CONTRAST RATIO is pretty impressive also on the 8 series .

Seriously, I have no life.
I was leaning towards Panasonic Plasma but I think LCD would be a better choice. Right now I have a 50in Samsung Plasma. The reflections on it are bad. My Living room as full sun all day long and my wife like to have all the lights on when watching at night. Due to this issue alone I think I will go LCD.
What is currently the best 52/55in or bigger LCD out there. Brand/model.
We have an old Sony 720p 40LCD in the bed room that is nice for video games but looks awful on SD tv. Never tried it on HD..
Help if you can.
Look for somehting with a coated (anti-reflection) screen.

She may like having the lights on at night because the contrast and brightness may be set too high. Plasma is far better than LCD, for my money. I just installed an LG 55" LCD and it was good on stationary objects but when something moved fast, it was still not great. Plasma is definitely better for movement.

I wouldn't worry about the heat of 1 plasma unless heat is already in issue in your room. Newer plasmas may be better in that reguard as well.

By the word of cnet the 8500 series is the best LCD they've tested. Their main gripe looked to be poor off-angle viewing. Personally my LCD is the same way and it's a bit irritating as I sit too close. The center looks good, but the sides have a fairly noticeable color shift.

Cnet also gave the G10/V10 plasmas some pretty high marks and are much cheaper than the grossly overpriced 8500 series.

Though if you're looking to buy in a few months, might be best to wait for the 2010 models of LEDs and plasmas to be released. Local dimming LEDs need to come down in price and Panasonic needs to reach the black level of Pioneer. Be nice if both happened. :)

Those are all very good points youve mentioned and i will most definately consider all of them, thankyou . Im thinking maybe march or april and maybe the 2010 models will be out . Plasma isnt completely out but theres going to have to be a pretty noticible difference in picture quality.

IMO, the difference is enormous, and I've never once owned a plasma or an LCD in my life (ok, outside of a computer monitor). FWIW, if you have your display (particularly the plasma) reasonably calibrated, that alone should significantly drop the power consumption, and therefore heat output.

You see, a typical LCD is using its max rated power 100% of the time, because the backlight is always on. A plasma will only do so when the whole screen is brightest white (which never happens). Since there is a propensity to have these displays sold with mega scorch mode as the default, there is potentially a lot of heat output to be reduced, AFAIK. The V10 I recently checked out had settings that were rather horrible, in my estimation. Crushed blacks, oversaturation, inaccurate colors. It was obviously not calibrated, nor on THX mode.

Incorrect. Most LCDs have a very flat coating unlike Plasma counterparts. Thats a myth propogated by LCD haters. ;) Motion blur is also no longer an issue with LCDs. The two things LCD fall behind plasma are black levels and viewing angles only.
I bought an LG LCD 240hz recently and immediately took it back due to motion blurring. I now have a 50 inch Samsung Plasma.

Cool but there is no motion blur on my Vizio that I can detect
Same here on my small 40" Samsung LCD I have in a bedroom although I dont watch hardly any sports on it I do watch some fast paced movies on it periodically .
