Eh, I got no problem with it. Sometimes leadership is about humility and respect. There's no shame in that. He is after all, a guest in their country. He's not the leader there.

It's one thing to show respect....and quite another to broadcast weakness.

You really think he was broadcasting weakness? Care to explain how; other than no matter what this guy does, its not what you want? I guess you're right, it would have been so much cooler if Obama gave him a wet-willie or punched him in the pills.

Its one thing not to like the guy, and quite another to attack everything the man does. Surely you've got better things to do.

Buckeyenut is just trolling. Its what he does best and does not offer or contribute anything else to audioholics. Apparently in the eyes of others around here he deserves full reputation...WHAT A JOKE!

I agree.

Well, he does like posting pics of his kid, telescope, and car.

Other that that, it's inflammatory and hateful trolling. Unrepentant right winged rhetoric shoved down your throat.

I think he get's a pass because, by far, the great majority of AH moderators and founders are of the conservative camp. Which is fine by me.

But this kind of crap does get old.

What I DO find embarrassing is that many of these types of posts, including those by the moderators themselves, don't know how to spell when they do shove this **** down your throat.

I guess you can shrug almost anything off as insignificant and say "why bother." But unfortunately, there are other cultures where these things matter and matter to a very high degree. Other cultures view these kinds of things and at best formulate opinions and at worst, use it as propaganda. Maybe it's not a big deal... but why must he do what no other President of the United States does? This is the second time. I don't know why there are those in our own country who seem embarrassed or even ashamed at being a powerful country. I'd like us to stay that way. And for anyone who's going to jump in say how evil we are, my response is, I've never heard of another country fighting with for airspace when dropping off humanitarian aid ... even to our sworn enemies.

I think the bowing thing means something. Maybe not a big deal in the grand scheme, but it does say something... maybe his arrogrance and his need to simply do things that are not well received. Some will argue that it shows the opposite, but I get the sense he almost enjoys doing these sorts of things, like apologizing for the US in foreign countries, etc. I think that he may feel that others will look upon him as "above" it all because he's so contrite. To me,there's no greater strength than just being who you are and quietly, or not so quietly, making sure other know as well.

I dunno. I don't think we should necessarily be apolgetic, but showing respect often earns respect. I'd rather be respected as a country for being fair, just, and judicious with our power than flaunting it about.

If you come over to my house and the protocol is to remove your shoes, and you did that, I'd respect you for honoring my protocol. If you didn't (and knew of the protocol) I'd think you were a bit of a DB and I'd be less likely to accomodate any requests you had or to be as friendly.

Maybe the analogy is a bit far stretched, but I think the principles apply to some degree.

Bowing is customary in Japan. As a diplomat, he pretty much had to. As such, I don't see it so much as a sign of weakness as a showing of respect to the head of another country.

Of course, a lot depends on how low he bows and in what direction he's facing when he does it.

I wouldn't worry about Japan viewing the U.S. as weak. That got them in serious trouble a little over half a century ago.

Recent presidents that have bowed to foreign leaders include Eisenhower and Nixon. I wouldn't call Eisenhower a weakling or an embarrassment. Nixon is another story.

I'm sure Bush and other Presidents bowed, too.

Now, if Obama got on his knees and bowed or did a full kow tow that would be different. Even Fox News and Rush Limbaugh haven't jumped on this. Therefore, I know it must be a non-issue.

Now, the audioholic in me wonders what kind of audio and video gear the White House and the Japanese Prime Minister's residence.
