Fishtank in AV room?

I have a large 90gallon fishtank in the room that Im going to slowly develop into a dedicated theater room.

Two questions:

1) anyone know how this affects acoustics (it is a large room about 600 ft 2)

2) Im getting JBl L890 with a good power amp, perhaps Bryston, anyone know if I can break a fishtank with sound? (eventually Ill have a sub on this system)

Thanks for any help.

That will be a large, reflective surface, so that's something to consider.

I'd be more worried about shocking/killing the fish inside the tank than anything else.

If you manage to "break" the fish tank with sound, you've got something to be super excited about. I hope your fish are audiophiles.

I had a 200 gallon tank in my main room when I lived in FL. Good luck trying to break the fish tank, you would probably have better luck with a hammer. :)

Might have to move the tank, ouch

I will move the fish tank if need be. But I can also cover it with some good sound proofing fabric when Im in the av room.(for room acoustic reasons)

The glass on this tank is think , about 5/8 of an inch, so I doubt I can break it but Im really not sure.

The fish seem to get along ok with the sound of my present stereo, however my stereo right now is not very powerful (15 year old 2 way psb speakers with a 35w per channel vintage pioneer)...

More advice is appreciated...

If you manage to break your tank, at least you won't hear your wife yell at you.

You ain't gonna break it.

Was it a silly question?

Perhaps it seemed like a silly question but...

Ive never had a good, powerful stereo and I just wanted to make sure.

My brother has an AMAZING powerful audiophile system and when I heard it at high volume it seemed like my heart might be damaged; literally.

I just thought I should check to make sure I cant break it.

I think I will design the theatre room so that the tank is in an alcove that I can lower a sound baffle over it, just so the fish wont freak out....or perhaps Ill just move the tank...

Has anyone had a fish tank close to a powerful stereo? Did the fish get used to it, or did they constantly freak out?

Do fish like TOOL? LOL

They absolutely do. I had a 165 gallon full blown reef (hence my handle) in my dining room (attached to the living room) and the corals thrived to Tool at super sonic volumes.

On another note, cats hate Pineapple Thief, and Three.

Your biggest problem is where the moisture and electronics are concerned. You want the fish tank (esp. if it's saltwater) to b as far away from your rig as you can get it if it's going to be in the same room.
