so i have this boombox from the late 80's, its a realistic and it was one of there best model back then, it has a high quality amp and 3band equalizer, i have hooked up its amp to a 8inch jbl subwoofer and it could hit really deep notes well, it is a 10w rms per channel amp, but my left speaker is starting to rattle, i think i melted the plastic on the voicecoil a little bit, and i would like to replace these woofers with new ones. The hole is exactly 4 inches in size, so the woofer itself can't be bigger than 4 inch's but the frame can be, and the maximum mounting depth is 2.6 inches, i am looking for a woofer that can hit atleast down to 50hz (deeper is always better), and it needs to go up to atleast 5000hz. so could you guys help me find my new better woofer, i did find one woofer which was perfect but it was a little expensive, i'm trying to keep the price under $50 a pair $100 max for a pair.

No four inch woofer on a boom box will get to anything like 50 Hz. You will be lucky to get 90 Hz, in a boom box.

i already did find a woofer for it that will hit 45hz in a free air box, but it was $65 per woofer and i did find one that hits 55hz and its 25 bucks for a pair but i want opinions so i can make it worth my money.

You could begin your search at Parts Express.

I would imagine something like this would work.
that speaker u listed does have good specs, but it requires a sealed enxlousre, this box has vents on the back of it, if necesarry i could maybe try sealing the boombox but it has alotta leaks to fix...

I doubt that. Speakers have misleading specs. It will hit 45 Hz, but any 4" driver in a boom box open backed will be down at least 18 db by 50 Hz and likely more. That is the physics of the situation and the laws don't bend for speaker manufacturers, but they like to persuade you they do.

For your application, I would use this driver.

i'm not looking for it to sound like a shelf stereo, but i am going for the best oldskool boombox sound available, the stock 4 inch 6w woofers that are in there sounded awesome for its age until the left woofer melted, they could easily hit stuff down to 60hz so i'm just looking for a lower distortion version of what already in there with maybe a little deeper bass response.

and also, if you sit behind this boombox even with the speakers as is the bass is much louder behind it.

The bass is not louder behind it. Some of the HF is absorbed from the rear radiation so the spectral balance changes, but the bass output is the same.

It seems you have a lot to learn. I would use the Tangband driver, it likely will be better than the ones you were using. A boom box is low Fi. If you want something better put a system together.

ya well i would like a build a better system but i'm low on money, and the amp in thiis boombox isnt low-fi just the speakers, it has line in and out, speakers out, a headphone jack, 3band eq, a seperate amp for each speaker for better stereo seperation, its old but the best of the 80's, and all the tang band speakers that i like are to big to fit in here.

i'm not a pro but i am extremely experienced, i just never work on small stuff, i'm usually working on home stereos, or premium car systems.

They are probably your best bet. They look like paper coned drivers, and are probably very similar to the ones in your current boom box.

Fs is 68 Hz, so bass cut off in an open box will be somewhere between 100 and 120 Hz. But I bet that is what your current drivers did.

Drivers like this will have a top roll off so you think there is more bass than there is.

The Tangband driver has a slightly rising high end. Even though the Tangband has more bass, you will think it has less, because of the rising top end response. I can bet the Boston drivers have HF roll off. To you they are more likely to sound better, and in actuality they will be better balanced for your purposes.

Now your quarter has run out.
