I really like the 1501. Great form factor and excellent specs. Someday I will get one for my living room setup. I guess the real question is: Is 50w going to be enough in the room you will use it?

Good luck.:)

I like what Marantz has been putting out for the past few years. But then I've never been a big fan of HK.

BTW- when choosing a prom date, always go for the one most likely to put out.

If those are them, I'd go with the Marantz; no question.

I think in this case you may be getting more the HK. Just make sure to check ebay for HK receivers and accessories4less for marantz. Otherwise you'll likely pay way too much.;)

I prefer not to pay child support. But I found Prom to be silly. To me it's like a wedding for high school girls.

I would take the Harman Kardon. No doubt in my mind.

Based on looks, hell yes. :)
It looked like it had pre-outs too. ;)

Based on my experience with H/K, hell no.
Maybe they have gotten better.

I'm really torn...at first, I think I'm gonna go one way - then I flip back. If it comes down to price: I can get the Marantz for $360 straight or the H/K for $306 straight.

The Marantz doesn't have 5.1 analog in, but with the HDMI switching (and +1 hdmi over the H/K) and up conversion of all signals, does it really need it? Both manufacturers modestly rate their power, so I think both will push enough to the speakers.

Am I really at the point where I can flip a coin and win either way???

hehe the marantz is a little skinnier too. That usually goes over a little better when your friends see her ;)

Even though you may get 1 or 2 things extra and a little more power with the H/K, I've found them to be a bit less reliable than Marantz. Both have very good sound, good amplification, but I have not hear this NR receiver yet.

I apologize for those other two. They don't know how to act.

What do those rec'rs have in the way of pre outs?

The Marantz doesn't have 6 channel in? Does the H/K?

The only thing I use mine for is SACD and DVD-A.

That H/k is good lookin' if you ask me and between that and the $60 ... I might be sold.
Especially if it has pre-outs.

Are you going to be happy with only 50 watts?
