Newbie = Yamaha RX-765 Or RX-1065

Planning on building my first rig and wanted to get a receiver in this sort of price range. but i wanted to know if the price of the RX-1065 can be justified over the 765. the only thing that i will have connected to it will be an oppo bdp-83.

What speakers and how large of a room are you filling?

speaker setup = Klipsch HD Theatre 300/500 depending on which one my friend provides.

room is 10x12ft.........with a bay window =(

I recently (6 weeks ago) made this exact same decision.


The only differences between the two that I could find were that the 1065 is 10 watts more powerfull per channel (20 hz-20k hz), has a USB input, HD radio tuner, and a more elaborate onscreen user interface.

I based my decision like this: I probably can not hear a difference in 10 watts of power, do not need USB input nor HD radio as I don't listen to am/fm radio at home, and once I set the settings on the reciever, I wont need the user interface any longer. So I chose the 765. Thus far I have zero complaints on it. It replaced an old Denon AVR-3802 that I have had since 2002.

either will work just fine with those systems, just get the unit that has the features you need as power is going to be your overwhelming priority. Good Luck and have fun with the new toys
