I'd be willing to bet your base alert status either has changed or will in the coming hours.
Are they saying it could be people possibly infiltrating the US military? A crazy military person sounds more likely but they will cover all bases. Interesting to see what the background check comes up within the next couple of days.

What the hell is this racist bull? Go to hell.
That's not racist. If he had posted about his family's country of origin or that he was of Middle Eastern descent, it would have been more similar to racism.

From a BBC News article, "On a form for those looking for spouses through the mosque he listed his birthplace as Arlington, Virginia, but his nationality as Palestinian, Mr Khan said."

I wastched most of the coverage last night. All this crap is really starting to get me down. I know even 200 years ago, people were lamenting about the state of the world, that it can't get much worse, but hell, between gangs, terrorists, and sympathisers, I'm feelng a bit defeated mentally and morally lately.

One fact about all this that really causes me pause is that apparently one man, with two handguns was able to kill and wound that many people. Having done a lot of research into tactical and crime scenarios over the years, I find what he was able to do mindboggeling, even somewhat unbelievable. He was able to shoot nearly four dozen people. I don't understand how that happened. Perhaps it was the location, training, etc, I don't know, but for a single person to cause that kind of damage is almost unheard of. I'm wondering what is going to shake out once they determine the facts of what transpired.

The fact that he is Muslim in and of itself doesn't bother me, nor concern me. What does cause me great concern is the fact that he is a muslim who blogged that his personal feeling was that a suicide bomber is somehow the same thing as a marine who jumps on a grenade. That nugget came to light this morning and speaks volumes. My concern about Muslims, and I have personal experience to feel this way, is that it seems that even though they may not be violent or ever engage in a terroist act, they somehow find a way to rationalize the most violent of acts, even justify it. When you sympathize with such animalistic behavior, it makes me feel that any one of them has the potential to be swayed and commit a violent act. My daughter's friend in high school is a Muslim. She wears a hajeab (sp?) and has what seems to be a fairly moderate religious upbringing. I've met her parents. They seem like perfectly fine people and it never even ocurred to me to even consider anything about their Muslim beliefs. I would have never equated any ill-conceieved notions about them in any way. Last year, my daughter came home upset a couple time that her friend has said some tihngs, basically trying to justify terrorist events. Then, we learned that they pulled her out of school to attend a very formal symposium on the destruction of Isreal.

There's a lot more to the story, but suffice it to say that "you never know." It's no different to find out that your seemingly "normal" next door neighbor is a serial killer. I've just become, not suspicious really, but vigilant I guess.

If you have a Muslim preaching or writing about hate, or justifying murder, which is what they eseentially had found out six months ago about this guy, then maybe it should warrant far stronger consideration. Perhaps that's profiling, but I'm okay with it.

I agree, profile, profile and profile, and don't take your eyes of any of them. What is going on on the Twin Cities mosques right now is downright scary.

Good post Chris, yeah it sucks right now. We are still waiting for them to release the names at our level to see if we know any of the victims.

Well said and I completely agree. They live in a different mindset (if that's the correct word) which for them justifies these actions. Also in Europe mosques are (mis)used to preach hate and violence and this should really be strictly monitored; if not already done.

It is truly a sad day. My heart goes out to all of the people at that Ft. Hood. Many of these people are getting ready for deployment or just returning. I just hope they can maintain focus for what is ahead of them and not allow this to get them rattled.

Though we may not know any of the people involved personally, the effects of such events have a way of changing our daily lives. They have a way of changing our perceptions. Though nothing has really changed in our daily lives, we feel a little more vulnerable.

A horribly sad day indeed. One of my best friends was deployed from Ft. Hood, and he could have easily been one of the victims had this happened a short while ago. My heart goes out to anyone who lost someone close in this incident.

I am completely baffled myself at how many trained people got killed or injured by one person. I guess absolutely everyone was just caught very much off-guard.

I'm just really bummed. Not that it changes much, but I hope you don't know any of the victims.

Ironically, our charity group just kicked off a new campaign to knit helmet liners for the troops over in Afghanastan. I can't knit myself, but I bought $200 worth of supplies to give to people who can. You just never know who can actually knit. I was trying to ask around and it turns out that this guy who lives a couple of houses down knits all the time. He took on the hobby to help his blood pressure and has been doing it for years. It's just ironic that here at the office we were kicking of this new campaign to help our soldiers in harms way overseas, whilst our men and women over here suffered their own tragic loss.
