Being a neophyte aspiring audiophile I want to obtain the best possible sound on my limited budget.

The speakers I was looking at were in the sub 1k price range.

Polk Audio TSi400 - 299.95 Each Amazon

Polk Audio Monitor 70- 299.00 Each Amazon

Klipsch F-2 Synergy- $374.50 Each Amazon

BIC America Venturi DV64 - $132.92 Each Amazon

If you know any other good speakers in this price range, please let me know.

Thanks

Are you limited to floor standers?

I am not, but from what I have been told, floor standing speakers provide the best sound...

I'm still learning so If you can tell me differently, much appreciated.

Thanks

With alot of floor standing speakers that are of the the 3 way design. the crossover implementation is poor. A good bookshelve at similar prices often/tend to sound more accurate. What is your total budget?

You should listen to all those. Then, listen to the Infinity Primus P362's that are $299.99 ea. at retail but often on sale for $99 each ($198/pair) at Fry's.

Moreover, you should check out the EMP Impression towers. They're currently $400 a pair introductory pricing.

Lastly, consider the The Speaker Company's TST2 towers.

Now, you said your budget as up to 1k?

What about some nice electrostats like the BG Radia Z7s?

Note that the BG Radia Z7 and the EMP Impressions will likely need more amplification than the other speakers I listed.

Those look really nice :)

Thanks
if you wanted to stick with the floorstanders, it seems like the Infinity Primus 362's would fit perfectly. Wait till they go on sale at Frys and get a pair for 200 bucks, throw in some peel n' seal and rock wool and be good to go.

Ahh...

More choices....

If this helps for clarification, I want this for music listening only. I want the best sound reproduction I can get.

To the point of giving up some bottom end to increase overall sq?

In your situation I would stick to bookshelves. Go listen to the B&Ws and a few others in your price range and come back with your impressions. Based on that, I bet you get some really good recommendations here.

I own 6xx series B&Ws and can say that the ascends are not as bloated in the mid/low bass area. The 6 series is good speaker, but cant reproduce the same as the 170s:)

I've never heard them in the same room, but I'd take the $220 bstock 170SE over the older gen 600, and 700 BW series bookshelves.

The only real bookshelves that I've got to listen to in my own home, at least recently, are PSB (various) and MA Bronze. The 170s are better off axis than both IMO. While the PSB is a very good speaker for most people on this budget, I have the same kind of complaint that bandphan does. I think its most prominent compromise is bloated midbass, both in the bookshelves (at least the larger B25s) and towers. However, many larger speakers at this price point seem to have the same fault, to be fair.

The $220 Ascend is a great value right now. My main complaints are the unsexy looks, both being boxy in shape, and the vinyl textured finish from what I remember. Not offensive, but not so sexy either.

I think the B&W 685 looks sexy :) and i'm also looking at the Paradigm Atom v6.

The CBM-170 SE looks really ugly IMO .
