o.k I finished my entertainment cabinet and finally hooked up my new onkyo 607 receiver and I can not believe how much better the sound is than my old onkyo 506, now I know people said that I might hear a slight difference with a new lossless receiver but everything sounds insane I was watching FX last night and the sound was pouring out from all speakers, even the picture looks better I hope this is not my imagination, and I quit smoking weed yrs ago can anyone explain to me why I am noticing such a difference in quality? and also is one better audio than the other dts master or true dh? thanks everyone for all the advice

Simply put, the Onkyo TX-SR607 is just a great receiver, and surpasses the 506 on all fronts.

Here's a good review from 'Secrets of Home Theater and High Fidelity':

Here's another from 'Playback Mag':

))) You just got yourself a nice receiver, that's all. :)

1. The picture looks great because it passes the video signal through, without affecting the quality. Plus the video processing is reasonable; but Pass Through is the way to go if you have a decent TV display.

2. Both DTS-HD MA & Dolby TrueHD high res. audio are equally adept at a very high fidelity audio quality.
But on paper, DTS-HD MA has the edge, and does sound fabulous. :)
But I won't fret it over which one is really superior, they are equally excellent.
Just enjoy.

I don't know what Onkyo did, but this year all their A/V's is getting great reviews from everyone. I have not heard one complaint from anyone on any of the boards.

yeah I will tell you I did not expect to get the amazing results that I did I am truly blown away! I was going to navigate around and maybe fool around with some of the settings but I am afraid to mess up a great thing.

hey all, after running audyssey all my speakers were set to 50 crossover and the sub was at 100 , what I am wondering is my sub volume came in at -15db. Before I ran the audyssey calibration I set the volume on the sub to half way, does this make sense that it would be at -15db? I have all infinitys speakers primus 162, 350 center and ps 210 sub and does the 50 crossover for the other speakers sound right? thanks all

You can manually adjust your X-overs, if you are not satisfied with what Onkyo has choosen (yes, you did read that right, it's not Audyssey that set the x-overs, it's Onkyo).

* Also, there is a separate LFE (for the Low Frequency Effect channel only)
setting on your Onkyo. I suggest that you set it to 120hz.
---> And for all your speaker's x-overs, I will suggest a 80hz x-over point.

** Also, try setting the Gain (volume) on your sub, to about 1/3 of it's rotating knob control. That should take care of the -15db discrepency.
And if it's still too low, try even at 1/4 rotation.

*** And don't be afraid to rerun Audyssey as many times you wish,
for better performance.

**** The link that I provided (Audyssey Setup Guide) is an invaluable source of informations, read it attentively.

))) Good luck, and keep in touch with your final results. :)

I replaced a 10 year old Onkyo with the 607 and have been very happy with it. I looked around a bit and found very positive reviews for it.
