Hi all video and audio fans.

Couple of weeks have passed and I am trying to figure out how to make my cinema/family room.

At the begining everything looked simply :) Now hmm...

I need your advice

1. Projector

I consider Optoma HD20 or Epson EMP TW-700

Epson - lens shift (hmm. maybe sometimes in the future I woudl like to move PJ to another place with diferent room setup), very good zoom, I can setup this PJ almost everywhere, 3 years guarantee for the lamp that will give me a lot of relax in case:)

Optoma, one year for the bulb, very fixed setup, but everybody recommend this one - must be something very interesting in this one maybe picture quality (beside that is FullHD).

How is the picture quality Epson vs Optoma (watching the same movie and the same definition)?

1080p, 720p - I consider mostly watch SAT TV HD, it will take a lot of time when in Poland they start broadcasting full HD. Does it make sense to go 1080p or to go with 720p (maybe better, I don't know) ? this is my big question ? which PJ to chose for that price. Now I fill, maybe should go with optoma, maybe in one year I will buy blu-ray player.

Can I see the big diference btw 1080p and 1080i ? on the screen 100"-120" with those projectors ?

2. Screen
After reading articles here, I will go with white mate

How is quality picture depending from quality screen ?

If I will buy optoma, should I go with optoma standard screen ? Is it optimized for this projector ?

My room is long 15' and optimal diagonal I can have is 120", is it to big for those projectors ? Can I loose to much quality ? what size you can recommend otimally for 15' long room.

Room will be done way that can be normaly like familly room and also (almost) complete darkness

Hope you can clear my mind

Thanks a lot for any advices, regarding PJ, screens and as well looking for the future 2-3 years forward.

Maybe I should go with another PJ ?

I am sorry if I repeating the question 10th time or 100th but I went back one year and haven't really found the answer.

Best regards

With a 15’ long room, I would be sitting about 11.5’ from the, approximately, 106” dia. screen. If your ceiling is about 8’, the Optoma HD20 should work well. I think the Optoma at 1080p is better since you’ll notice the difference when you purchase a BD player. An Elite ezFrame CineWhite screen may be less expensive than an Optoma and would perform well. http://www.projectorcentral.com/projection_screens_review.htm.

Nice package deal, don’t know much about the screen though. Don’t know what your buying options are in Poland. http://www.visualapex.com/projector-package-deals/home-theater-bundle-details.asp?chPartNumber=HD20_106pkg&MFR=Optoma

I'm going to agree with AVRat on this one.

You generally don't want to sit pressed back against a wall if you want solid audio, but following general guidelines you want your screen to be about .66x your viewing distance in width - so if you are viewing from 12 feet, you want a 8 foot wide screen, which is about a 110" diagonal.

1080i material, such as you get from you HD satellite, scales very nicely to the 1080p projectors, and loses resolution when it goes to the 720p projectors like the Epson.

What the Epson really does have is what you mentioned already - a lot of placement flexibility and a better warranty, which are both valued items, but perhaps not necessary.

As long as the Optoma can actually fit properly in the room, which is likely if you are doing the work, or having it done for you, then I would go that route.

For a screen, I would go to a screen manufacturer first, and a projector manufacturer second. Find a deal locally on good FIXED FRAME screens. Do not get a manual roll up screen (or motorized) if you can avoid it.

On a severe budget, I recommend people take a look at the Focupix screens at www.htdepot.com - which probably doesn't ship your way, but you may find something locally.

I'm not sure what Blu-ray costs in your neck of the woods, but I would expect that you can find yourself with a HD movie player in the next year or two, and the Optoma will work very nicely with it to provide you excellent results.

I bought the Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 6100 from HHgregg in Orlando for 1599. I also got a $100 back and free bulb after MIR. I purchased a 5 yr warranty for 399 and it includes free bulb replacements. My old AE-PT900U I replaced the bulb 3 times at 250 a piece in 3 yrs and figured the warranty was worth it. I havent calibrated it yet because of time but am very happy with it. I have a brilliant white carada screen. Also, I got no interest for 18months, another reason I went with HHgregg and not online. You might want to consider this option if you can. I know you said 1000 but the no interest financing helps.

I don't think they have HHGregg in Poland...
