some maybe following my other post in the DIY section, if not i am mounting a 50" plasma on the wall and the wife wants no cords showing... so that means i need to install on electrical outlet...

lucky for me there already is on right below were the tv is to be mounted, so theoreticly the outlet just needs moved up the wall...

but i would like to have some kind of surge protection, should i go this route?

ANother way to deal with this is by using the box and wall plate I linked to and running Romex from the closet to the TV, with this:
http://www.ramelectronics.net/manufacturers/powerbridge/powerbridge-single-solution-kit/prodSSPBIW.html

This way, you plug the power cord into the power management/conditioner/filter of your choice and you can use a recessed wall plate (often called a 'nose plate') for the low voltage cabling, so nothing will show.

Ideally, all of the equipment in the system gets its power from the same circuit and if a suppressor is used, it's working for the whole system. The link I posted allows this to happen. The Furman/Panamax is good if the rest of the equipment isn't using a suppressor but you don't want to put a suppressor on a line that's already suppressed. It's also best if a TV isn't on one suppressor and the rest is on another.

That's info I got from the Sr. Design Engineer at Furman.
