Newbe Sub Questions

Appoligies in advance, I'm new to all this.

I got my first receiver today - a second hand Onkyo SR502. Looking at the ports on the back I can see I need to get a powered subwoofer.

I'm not overly keen on a having a big cube sitting on the floor by the receiver, ideally I'd like to place it on the opposite side of the living room. To get a wire there I'd need to run about 15 meters of cable (3 up, 9 over, 3 down).
Will this subwoofer preout signal travel this sort of distance? What sort of cable would I use, looks like its not standard speaker wire, but some sort of coax with a RCA plug at the end?

OK so assuming I can get the cable over there and plugged into a subwoofer, its still not ideal having the speaker out in the room (young kids), I've got a big empty cupboard there. Could I put the sub inside a cupboard? Its an outside wall so I'm not too worried about disturbing other rooms.

I'm obviously no audiophile, its mostly for a HT setup with the odd bit of music.

I just bought two new from blue jeans cable and am very happy with the quality of the cables. I priced the cable for a 50' run and it came to just about $75. Not bad in my opinion.

50' is about 15metres, so thats about the same distance ias i'd like to cover.

The Blue Jeans Cable or the monoprice cable would work just fine, I recommend monoprice for it's uber great price, never had a problem with them. Here's the subwoofer cable the poster above recommended, it is likely the best choice: Monoprice Link.

If you're putting the subwoofer in a cabinet you may want to look into some way of decoupling the subwoofer, this is a very popular option. Give it a try in your cupboard and if it's rattling around like crazy then you may want to try the above.

Distance is okay, you will encounter no problems with that distance on pre-out.

You can also "walk the sub" and locate it in a place in your room that aesthetically fits in and sounds the best. "walk the sub" means moving the sub to different possible locations until you find a pssible location that sounds the best. I actually had to relocate my sub to the back of my HT room and after level adjusting it sounds fine. my connection runs through the ceiling and back wall and is over 50 feet.
