Is there a forum here for Vintage gear? I just recently picked up a pair of JBL Towers model E-80 Northridge Series and a older amplifier, Pioneer SX-1280. Is that a safe combination or should I not do it? I have always loved a great sounding stereo, and when I saw the speakers and then that shiny Silver receiver, I just couldn't resist. Says something on the back panel of the receiver that I was kinda wondering about- "Warning! Hazardous Energy! Make Proper Speaker connections or Damage may result." What the heck does that mean?

Welcome to the forum. You will be fine. All that means is to make sure you hook up the speaker wire correctly, Positve to positive and negative to negative. Enjoy your new/old stereo.:D

Welcome Chuck!

No there isn't a forum specifically for vintage equipment but there are many members that are into vintage equipment.

That's a nice receiver and you wont have any problems as long as every thing is in proper working order. That warning could be printed on the back of all receivers...

Enjoy your new toys!

Wow thanks guys. I am glad that I don't feel like the only who has older gear, although I do have some newer gear as my primary HT system, a professional series RCA(made by Pioneer, I think) STA-3780 6.1 Receiver, with a Sony SA-WM500 12 inch sub, and a pair of old Marantz HD770's as my front mains. I got the 1280 and JBL's for dedicated music listening for my BR. When I first got the HD770's, it gave me a whole new perspective of how well built and how awesome older gear sounds compared to newer speakers. I have never been able to bring myself to appreciate newer speakers because they just sound way too colorful, muddy & harsh to me. After demoing my JBL E-80's I thought wow, now there's a newer speaker I can handle :)
