Nad Vs Teac (c715 Vs Cr-h227i)

This question has been asked in this forum (last year) but I wanted to get some additional feedback. It's been claimed that the NAD C715 is the same as the TEAC cr-h227i; that NAD outsourced to teac.

are these units really the same? The front panels are definitely different although they are the same exact dimensions. The teac has an ipod doc connector while an ipod dock on the NAD would have to be connected with RCA cables in the back.

The teac unit sells for 80-100 dollars cheaper than the NAD. The price difference wouldn't matter to me if someone can confirm that the NAD is better built

the TEAC sells for 330 at abe'sofmaine
the NAD sells for 400 at audioadvisor

The NAD is the same as one of the Teac models, NAD is literally putting a different face on the Teac and selling it as their own product. Go with the one you think looks best, or do what ever costs less, which ever you consider to be more important.

I was probably a contributor to last years thread, so I assume based on that you will have to take what I've stated with a grain of salt. I've had a chance to inspect the NAD unit closely and they have an uncanny likeness all around, and once inside they are natural twins.

Great info; howbout the ipod DOCK

Great info, the fact that you inspected them and came to the same conclusion leads credence to that claim, go figure why NAD would threaten their reputation by pricing it at 500 while the MSRP (if I'm not mistaking) of the TEAC was more around 400. Now i can get the TEAC for 330, i just have to see if the site is legit. Have you heard of the online store abe's of maine ? (Sorry can't post links yet)

Furthermore, do you like the IPOD dock that came with the unit? Or should i consider getting another one like the griffin airdock which could plug in the back using the RCA ports.

I don't own the CR-H227, I own a CR-H220 which uses the same principle platform, it just doesn't have the iPod and usb connections.

NAD isn't too worried about tarnishing their name, most companies aren't. Lexicon just rebadged an Oppo Blu-ray player and marked the price up 10x the price of the Oppo. At least NAD isn't doing a 1000% markup on their stuff.

bought cr-h227i

I ended up buying the cr-h227i, will receive it on Monday. I just got my energy c-200 speakers today.

Hope the setup is good. Thanks for your help. So TEAC is the original 'designer' of this unit?

Teac is the original designer behind all their Reference series components as well as their Esoteric series. Some of their other products are often OEM from Chinese mass production models.

Thanks for your help

So I got the Energy C-200 speakers (audioadvisor.com) and the TEAC cr-h227i receiver/cd player (electronicsexpo.com). I have them connected with monster xp cable. Very satisfied with the components.

Label: NW . Compact Precision Stranded High Resolution Speaker Cable with Magnetic Flux Tube and LPE Dielectric
- I’m not sure what gauge they are though, the diameter of the copper is about 2mm, so the SA is 3.14 mm2

Should I get better cable?

Also, I would like to know which connection method you recommend. I was thinking banaplugs adapters to easily plug them in the back of the receiver and speakers. At the moment they are hooked up with bare wire. The connectors on both the receiver and the speakers are 5 way binding post.

Also, do you both with bi-amplification or bi-wire? My speakers can do that although my receiver has only two channels each with 1 positive and 1 negative output.

The cable you purchased is more than adequate, I say more than adequate because regular old "zip cord" from your local hardware store would be every bit as good as the Monster cable you purchased.

The cable connection method will not alter the sound in any way, unless you buy some kind of resistive terminations (banana plugs made from some less conductive material for example, which probably don't exist). I wouldn't concern yourself with some "special" cable connector unless you will be often moving the system or swapping out speakers on a regular basis. Using bare wire is fine and you don't need to use anything else unless it's for the reason I stated above.

Just because a speaker is "bi-wireable" or "bi-amp capable" doesn't mean that you should do it. Bi-wiring is pointless and provides no audible advantage over a single wire. Bi-amping with that Teac receiver is impossible, because it is 2 amplified channels only. Bi-amping is only necessary to get more power to your speakers (which you don't need) or to put a superior cross-over in line between the Teac and your speakers, which is more trouble that what it's worth for a more secondary system such as this one.
