Do you know who sources their drivers?
Here is the skinny on the drivers direct from the site.

# Massive cast aluminum silver anodized frame
# Dual 3 inch high power voice coils
# CAD optimized motor structure
# Precision CNC-machined low carbon steel components
# High end ceramic magnets
# Ultra-stiff Kevlar impregnated paper-pulp cone
# Half-roll linear rubber surround
# Gold plated power terminals
# HBX motor design
# High excursion capability
# Extremely flat frequency response
# Incredibly high motor strength
# Low distortion motor design
# Enormous cone area
# Very high efficiency
# Ultra-clean and powerful mid-bass
# Designed in the USA
# Exclusive Epik driver design

In a very uneducated guess I would say it is a custom design by Chad Kuypers exclusive to Epik.

None the less... I like the way this guy thinks.

I see a 15hz extension on the conquest from some in room graphs. That's pretty good.

Only a well executed custom sub would significantly best that monster.

Well sadly to say there is no more Conquest. September 18th, Chad Kuypers posted in the Epik blob that he has had trouble getting the proper amp parts from his distributor to the point were he has discontinued the Conquest. As a result he is recommending dual Phoenixes to match the Conquest or Dual Dynasties to completely dominate a Conquest setup. He also realizes that he will have to continue to look into something that can replace the Conquest in a revamped product. I hope he calls it the Legend but he will have to ask me cuz I just copyrighted it lol J/k Anyways.... I spoke with Chad today about my order and he said it was going to be shipped out in a day or 2 so I am pumped. I need bass so bad that I spent the evening at my friends house trying to tune him out of a bass filled Hip Hop Honors show lol. I loveded it.

I really dont understand the lack of professional reviews for ID companies such as Epik, eD etc.

I own the Knight, and I just picked another up today (Used of course), Now I just need my LMC-1 back (Coming tomorrow). Pretty sure Im going to have brain damage after I get both pumping!

It is all about the mighty dollar I am afraid, nothing more. See, Epik is not going to just give away X amount of free subwoofers to various reviewers just to have them reviewed. And the reviewers are not going to pay the ID companies for them either, unless they get them at a substantial discount. I don't think Epik is all about giving their subwoofers away for next to nothing. Maybe I am wrong, but I doubt it :D

the subwoofer company would be out the shipping cost back and forth ... but the subwoofer SHOULD not be free to the reviewer. i would have no interest in reading that review if that was the case.

funny how having no third party objective tests equals being able to make any claim on what the subs can do.

when i say 3rd party objective tests, i mean: Audioholic's Mark San Filippo (sic?), AVTALK's Charlie, Home Theater Shack's Ilkka

Ok Guys I got my Phoenix in today and I have been listening to it for about 2 hours now, mostly in amazement. So as promised here is a little review for anyone interested. To start it is so dominating on the low end (something I was looking for) and yet it just blends in so well.

My listening room is about 2851cu. ft. and it does a very good job filling up the whole space. I have a lot of useless resonance so I think I will be getting an Anti-Mode in a month or 2 however aside from everything in the room shaking and rattling I am totally satisfied. Maybe one day in the future I will get a 2nd one to see if I can hurt myself lol. Once again Epik has made another satisfied customer. Chad Kuyper really has his stuff together on these subs. I actually wish he would get more credit than I can extend him.

On a last note I just wanted to add that I listen to A LOT of music therefore I was not looking for a sub for an HT. I did notice that in the case of music that is played with instruments, like rock and metal bands, the sub picked up terrific low frequencies more often than with non instrument music, like rap and hip-hop. I found this to be a plus amongst the numerous other pluses.

Not very good at reviews per se so if someone would like ask me questions I will be happy to answer them.

Thanks for the review! The Phoneix has really peaked my interest due to the reports (of lack there) of any mechancial noise from the driver or port noise no matter how hard you push it. It's going to be awhile till I'm in the market again but as of right now those Epik subs seem to be an exceptional "bang for your buck" value.

You got any photos? Of your setup. We'd love to see it in the member's systems gallery.

I am sorry I have no photos. My system is very basic. Just the 2 powered mains on the left and right. The receiver sits on top of my old 36" CRT and the Phoenix 18" sub sits on the right of the room. Once again sorry for no pics.

My dual Dy Nasty-s!

I have had my dual dynastys for a few weeks now. I have successfully located all poorly hung items on my sheetrock walls as I have picked them off the floor and rehung them.

My bass needs to put it bluntly, have not only been met, but handily exceeded.

The bass is tight, strong, visceral, and most importantly CLEAN> .....Its bass you can FEEL. Last time I experienced bass I could FEEL was in the motor room of a ship.

I have the set up in the corners. Machine guns or gunfire sound like its in the room with me. Explosions are a whole 'nuther experiance. I hear things I have missed in many movies, same goes for Audio.

I never for a second regretted buying these items, they are built like the proverbial brick sh*thouse, strong and hell for stout. No I am not affiliated with Epik in any way, just a well satisfied customer.

My equipment list to compliment these is as follows

Emotiva ERT_8.3 Reference Towers for L/R Mains
Emotiva ERM-6.3 for Center Channel
Emotiva ERD-1's, (four) for surrounds
Emotiva UPA-7 7 channel amplifier
Emotiva ERC-1 Reference CD Player
Emotiva USP-1 Stereo Preamplifier
Emotiva UMC-1 Audio-Video Processor (on its way)
OPPO BDP-83 Blu-ray Disc Player
Twin Epik Dynasty 18 inch Subwoofers
Samsung LN52A750 52 inch Series Auto Motion Plus™ 240 Hz LCD HDTV
Belkin AP41300fc12-BLKPF60 Home Theater Power Console
:D;)

Nice review Ray. There is another dude in another forum that is running dual-Dynasties and said that he was in love with them but when he added the Anti-Mode 8033 that it sounded even better and was more "violent" was the word he used. Also to quote him he said was "cracking drywall." Thanks for contributing to this thread.

I was going to get the Antimode

but I think the UMC1 has a similar device, I will wait and try that first.

Yesterday for the first time I have really cranked them up. Holey Moley I was absolutely FLOORED. Violent is a good term to use. Most impressive however was ZERO distortion, no huffing, chuffing, just incredible CLEAN strong bass. I did feel on on Steely Dan cd, like I was center stage at the concert front row. I put a paper towel by the port, it simply blew it away like the exhaust on a vac ;).....these units really do move some air. The amps when I pushed them.......(for several songs) remained luke warm, never getting hot.

I had all the sound pressure I needed and them some. This is the first system I had that could duplicated a real world live performance. The drummer sounded like he was in the corner of my room. You could even discern the tick of the stick before the cymbal ring, and cleanly hear the finger slides on the frets. My wife left yesterday to take my daughter to lacrosse practice for the day, and I had the house to myself, so I wanted to see what my setup could do......I was floored, and very VERY impressed.

The Emo speakers and sub combo proved to be a most potent, clear and clean sound. In short, it rivaled a live performance, Just that simple. I am no audiophile, nor do I have a suitcase full of fancy adjectives to describe the performance. All I know is it sounds damn good to my old wrinkled ears, sounds better than anyone else s I know, and I never regret for a second getting this setup.

I will tell you this though, yesterday I had a long term sh*t eatin ear to ear grin on my face......:D;)

When you get ready to upgrade to a DIY custom option let us know.:D

Yeah it can get even crazier. Think 21" sub in a massive box. :D

I thought about that from the beginning but I am not a crafts man so I just went with the best manufactured subs I could find. If you think about it... Chad at Epik hand builds all of the subs himself so it is like ordering a DIY kit pre-assembled lol

Well I got caught up in the wait at Epik due to shortage of parts. I ordered on the 9th of November and today the 17th of December my 2nd Phoenix came in and let me tell you it was so worth the wait. It has totally changed how I perceive bass inside the home. I finally feel like I am hearing bass from inside of a car. I know that might not be what most are looking for but I listen to music alot. Also when I put in a movie it really brings my sofa alive. I have a sofa that has a fold down center console for drinks and it vibrates drinks in it. It really is an eye opener. The single Phoenix is great start but it makes a difference to be able to fill the room properly with the low end. I have about 3300 cu. ft. but the last 1/3 of the room opens up to entrance to all of the rooms. This area was filled well with the 1st Phoenix but it was drowned out at times from resonance and left some open areas unattended from bass. This 2nd Phoenix totally fills in the rest of the areas and gives a good vibration in the sofa while listening to most anything. Along with my very powerful Klipsch Icon XF-48 mains there is a great blend of vocals to bass. Something that has always been challenging in my history of building car stereo. Setting up in a home allows for a better front stage. Finally I have found a great combo thanks to Epik and Klipsch.
