I appreciate your post. Very good points.

My only question is.... Since when is the crime rate the grade-card for how parents are doing raising kids?
I think it's helpful in pointing out that violent crime has gone down over the period. Of course I think the improvement in law enforcement and the improvement of race relations has done a lot more to help this.

Maybe the Tazer is what's really helped though. :D

the crime rate is only useful for determining how many new things are becoming illegal vs how easy it is to catch somebody doing the new illegal things.

I had a thought for an appropriate response to this. Assess a penalty on the Kids team or the kid himself. Make him sit on a bench for a couple of minutes. It's how they do it in real sports. If you break the rules you get a penalty not held off the bus.

I agree with that. Kids don't need to spanked to understand their place. Ultimately whatever commands respect is the method that needs to be implemented.
Respect, sure. Spanking is ineffective because it promotes fear and anger, not respect.

Neither of those is a punishment. The first one isn't, at all, and the second? Since when is getting to take a 2 minute break from PE a punishment?

I don't know that he was ready to be outed like that. :D
Dude, trust me - NOBODY is ready to be outed like the way you do it. :D

Then again, the shock and surprise is half the fun. So I hear.

This is really TOO much!! that to for a 2nd grader... come on they are still too young to understand right and wrong and the limits they can go while playing.. this is really rediculous.

It sure as heck promoted respect in my life.
What works for one might not work for all. It's been shown, time and time again, that corporal punishment does more harm than good. Just because you can cherry pick exceptions to this doesn't mean that the rule doesn't still apply.

After a brief discussion, I told her that she made the decision to keep my son off the bus, then she could personally drive him home....and she did.
You are now officially my hero. That was perfect.

I agree that the 2nd grade thing is what makes this whole issue absolutely ridiculous.
