I just ripped my kids principal...as politely

...as I could.

No...I am not one of those angry belligerent parents who go off and swear or act like an angry fool. I respect her position...but I did speak my mind and I let her know my feelings. She is only doing the best that she knows how to do her job......modern PC BS as it is.....The school principle called me today saying my son was held off the bus and that I had to come get him. When I heard the reason why, I was not a happy camper. They held him because during his last class (PE of all things) he tackled a kid when they were playing a game that was supposed to be 'touch'. Let me just say, the principal touched a nerve with me.............

Are YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME!!!!!????? They held him off the bus for THAT????????????????? Can schools not even handle the most simple discipline measures in house these days?????? I can appreciate keeping parents informed, but c'mon......

I was polite when I called the principle, but she could tell that I wasn't happy. I just wasn't in the mood...... After a brief discussion, I told her that she made the decision to keep my son off the bus, then she could personally drive him home....and she did. I told her my garage door will be open and she will see my car in the garage.......let my son out, and he will let himself in by himself. I Kid you not......I told her the best time for a parent/principle conference will be anytime that isn't today. I also asked that if she ever keeps him off the bus in the future, it better be for a good reason.

FYI.....the way our school is run.....Every time a student merely looks at/rolls their eyes at the wrong person, or touches a kid, a note home from school............our schools are raising a bunch of.....errrrr....don't even get me started. I think I just snapped....was it just a bad moment? I dunno? The stupid notes that come home from school these days about nothing have been chipping away...this was the last straw.... Did I overreact?? Probably and most definitely so.....

My son is in the 2nd grade....are there any elementary teachers present who would like to weigh in?

Sheesh.....

I don't think so, especially once I read the next sentence!

My son is in the 2nd grade. . . .
:confused::confused::confused:

When I first started reading your post, I thought the incident had too be in either middle or high school -- 2nd grade, . . . YGTBSM!

Best of luck this school year,

Is this a school where they don't keep score because they don't want anyone to feel they lost? BTW, her driving your son home probably wasn't a good idea in retrospect, although I completely sympathize with your situation. I'm not sure she's authorized to drive a child home as per whatever board of ed guidelines there may be. Had there been an accident...

I think that some kind of punishment is justified. If kids don't follow the rules, you reprimand them.

Also, tackling has a bigger chance of leading to injury than touching. Experts are finally starting to notice that kids and professionals both are getting concussive injuries from playing this way.

Yeah, once I found out he was in the 2nd grade I can see your point. That is pretty extreme for what I am assuming wasn't based on a pattern of aggression or violence. At first I assumed he was a teenager so I was thinking maybe he was a punk or something, but 2nd grade? What a joke. At that age just sit him for 5-10 minutes during the next game if its such a big deal. Thats rough. You probably handled it as well as one could handle it.

I kid you not...I received a personal phone call from the principal within the past month because my son was digging in his ear.....and he wrote his name on the school bus window with ear-wax.

First of all.....I want to laugh...beyond that...

He's 7 for GOD's sake...........................7yr old boys do that sh!T!!!!!!!

...and the principal calls me for THAT? I agree that he shouldn't do that, but JZus.............people.....can the school not handle even the most mundane BS discipline matters such as these?

I mean??? really?

Today was only the last straw........

I totally agree. I think the Gym teacher should have handled it on the spot.

The coach/teacher can order my son to run laps, do push-ups, sit out for awhile, or whatever he deems necessary......

.....that is my point.

The pussification of todays schools is what irks me.......

Even though this is waaaay off topic, I think my sons story is remotely similar to that story when a 5yr old pre preschooler was accused of sexual harassment when he hugged his teacher and inadvertently grabbed her boob.

Different storyline, but it's the same kind of crap.........IMO

That's the way it should have been handled. Stranding him at school by not allowing him to get on the bus is not a suitable 'punishment' unless the incident occurred on the bus and even then it's not really justifiable. In my day, we'd get the privilege of arriving an hour early or staying an hour late for detention.

My friend's kid came home the other day with a note that says he needs to bring a change of underwear with him to school. Apparently he asked to go to the bathroom and the teacher said No and he crapped his pants. I guess they're thinking that he will continue to crap his pants every day because they will continue to deny him the right to go to the bathroom when he needs to.

Was it a nice boob?...
But in all seriousness, I wonder if your kid's principle actually took a step back and thought, "yeh, how stupid that was" and and maybe that's why she drove the kid home.

They both share the same theme of over the top pc police run amok and over zealous punishment. For it to be comparable it would be more along the lines of your son being charged with attempted murder. That sexual harassment case is just mind boggling because of the extremity of the punishment. That is just ridiculous by any standards.

Yeah I remember the days of fighting and kicking.....in kindergarten...

Teaches you that sometimes situations warrant a fight. And if the fight is to be had then how to do so. But you better have a good reason. Teachers these days preparing students for a world without conflict is preperation for utter failure.

Best of luck with future life lessons. :)

I have friends that are elementary school teachers.

Just called one of them, and he said the only way something like would have happened at his school is if the kid had previous discipline problems. He also thinks you need a more detailed description of what happened by the PE teacher...because he doesn't think it was that simple.

On the bus, it is not about disciplining one kid, but making sure the rest of the kids on the bus are taken cared of, and there is only one bus driver.

The school is liable for all the kids, and that is something that we have to remember in the litigious society we live in.

Yikes. If I had to guess I would say that I am probably more liberal than 90% of the posters here, but I have to say I really hate this pussification stuff. I'm sure you've all heard of "no touch" policies and games like shadow tag? Dodgeball is now akin to a switchblade fight. I really woder how Gen Wuss will turn out. I guess if everyone is a wuss it might be OK, but the reality is that there will always be wolves among the sheep. If all the sheep know is how to baa happily they will be eaten sooner or later.

I would definitely want to know all the details if this were my child, but if this was just one incident of a kid getting carried away in PE I would be pretty irked with the school. Denying transportation could be a major issue for people. Hardly seems like a good way to address this issue.

How many of us DIDN'T play rough once in a while when we were kids? If he tackled the kid and stood over him, taunting like some JA in the NFL, that's one thing but if it was a rough tag that turned into a tackle, I'm not sure punishment is in order. Granted, small children can receive concussions more easily and their skull isn't completely grown together, which is why tackle football at that age is too early but if it wasn't malicious, a good explanation should work to keep it from happening again.

Writing our name with ear wax would have gotten us a paper towel and a teacher telling us to clean it up with no chance of getting out of it.

I wonder what she would have done if she couldn't get you on the phone, after keeping him off of the bus. No way to contact you, he's sitting there after everyone else has gone home- would they have called Children's Services?

People overreact all the time. This has to do with lawsuits. The school can get suited for anything. We are in desparate need of common sense law for lawsuits.
