hdmi vs. component for Panny 50 inch V10 plasma

I currently have a Yamaha RX-V2400 and will be adding a Panasonic P50V10 TV to my system. Would I be better off using component video from my cable box to the receiver and then component to the TV or hdmi directly from the canle box to the TV and just use the receiver for Audio.

If you want ir to be really trouble-free, I would use component. If you want to go to the receiver and use that for video switching, it means you'll need to run less cabling to the TV. The receiver may have audio delays that can help with lip synch issues, too.

In my personal experience, many units put out a different picture over component and HDMI. In the case of the cable boxes I get around here, the picture from the component out is markedly superior.

If you can, try both and see which one works better for your equipment. I started as a HDMI advocate, but have really come to appreciate component as well.

I think the idea of the HDMI being one cable, etc is good but I don't like the execution. Just a little better contact and insurance against wiggling/bending pins & terminals would be nice.

Removing some of the more insane copy-protection protocols would be nice too (it would also solve some compatability issues and delays in syncing). BJC seems to have some good and specific criticisms.
