For the first time, I will get to see NASCAR up close.....

Has anyone seen a race up close?

Anyone?

My son and I will be in the "infield".....with a very good view. I'm only taking a plain-jane digital camera designed for snapping still photo's, but I hope to take a few small video clips of the pack of cars approaching 'head-on' and zipping by at 200mph from just inside the inside retaining wall. I should be able to get right up and close and personal to the inside wall....we'll see.

I've never experienced this before, but I hear it is an insane experience in person.

anyone? I've never been there/done that, but I will on Saturday. LOL

I made it 20 laps at the Phoenix track a couple years ago....not my cup of tea. The pre-race stuff is cool for about the first 20 minutes.

I have been to about 6 races here in Texas. One of my friends is head of security so me and as many as I want to take can get in free. We skipped the last couple of years as I am old and sick of the traffic getting in and out of the place. It is a blast, TMS lets you bring in booze and buy it there too. You will have a blast, rent the scanner and headphones, that's really cool to listen to the drivers and crew talk.

I've been to quite a few races. None of them NASCAR though :) Always a great time. Seeing, hearing, feeling (and smelling) them up close and personal at the track is like nothing else.

My uncle loves NASCAR, but he is kind of a red-neck. Gotta love him though.

I don't get the excitement of racing in an oval. Give me any kind of CART, F1 or rally race over NASCAR any day.

The best way to really follow a race is on TV......LOL The atmosphere is where it's at..... The scene is incredible.

You can't see much from the infield....that's for sure. Even from high up in the stands you won't see much unless you're focused on following one car with Binocs.

Sweeet! How did you get to do that? What was your top speed, and how much speed did you maintain in the corners? I'd love to get my car on the track to see how fast I can go.......LOL

If anything, I'd prefer more banking....Kansas doesn't have a lot of banking compared to other tracks. I'd probably wimp out and slow down too much in the turns.

Talladega maybe?

I probably avg. around 80, hit maybe 105. It was a charity event and we had a pace car, so we couldn't get super crazy.

And you think that it doesn't have that much banking until you get into a car on it. Then you feel like you need to do 130 so you don't slide in towards the infield. Kinda crazy.

When you are out there, even a few degrees of banking would be noticeable, especially at speed. I've never even been to an oval though. Only ones around here are in southern Cali. or Vegas. Up here the tracks are all curvy :) Laguna Seca (my favorite track), Sears Point (Infineon), Thunder Hill, etc...

Well....it's still cool you got to drive on the track. (albeit a Sunday stroll)

The banking at Kansas is slight compared to other similar tracks.....but keep in mind it's all relative. Many 1.5mile tracks have more banking. Once you start talking super speedways...(Daytona and Talledaga)...these have banking in the corners 3-4 stories tall!!...... IE...if you aren't doing close to 90mph, you won't just feel like you might slide down.........you will. HEH

I heard that at Talladega, it is hard to stand on the banked sections. That is some pretty serious banking. Probably my favorite of the "all left turn" tracks.
