My Panasonic AE700U died this weekend!!!

I had not realized that bad polarizers were an issue until mine died and I started doing some investigating. Seems a lot of LCD projectors suffer this malady. My wife and I have real problems watching DLP projectors so I may be looking to replace it with a DILA.

Any suggestions?
Experiences?
Value vs. Price?

P.S. I have a couple of lamps and a busted projector for sale if someone needs parts.

Check out the LED Dlps from Samsung. I'm 99.999999% sure they don't have the rainbow effect issue.

Isn't this the wrong forum for this? What's the throw distance? The RS10/HD350 would be nice. How much you lookin' to spend?

I guess I could get mad and jump up and down so this thread could qualify for the steam vent.

I think anything goes here.

I am hoping to stay under the $2500 to $3000 line but it has been a while since I researched projectors and DILA was not that cheap.

I guess once I have two seconds to breath, I will run over to projector central and see what they have to say.

P.S. That is the other issue, the Panasonics had 2x throw distances. My projector sits about 17 feet from the screen. I may be able to mount the new one a little closer but as you can see from the photos, I have 18 foot ceilings so mounting options are limited.

Thanks for the tip. I did do some preliminary research and it is a real toss up whether or not to dump anywhere from $300 to $600 into an LCD projector. To top it all off, it may not fix it. Boards have been known to go bad once the polarizers get hot which is where I think I am now with it.

I think it is time to bite the bullet and buy a nicer projector.

I loved the Panasonic while I had it. Over four years (my wife and I guesstimate about 6,000 hours) and always produced a GREAT picture. Just wish it had given me 8 years of service. Would have made the investment a little easier to swallow.

DLP's have improved a lot on the RBE.

The LED ones can't have an RBE because they don't use a color wheel.

I am sure they have. The problem is that there are very few places to actually demo the unit you want to buy!!

Sure would hate to spend a couple of thousands of dollars only to find out we can not watch it.

I hear you loud and clear. The DLPs are rigid with zoom features too. Maybe you can trial and HD20 from somewhere.

You got 6000 hours out of your PJ that is very good. I'd suggest you get the Epson 6500 I rarely see used Epson PJs on ebay.
