Can I buy a TIVO just for the audio?

My SPDIF out on my TV is screwed up, so I can't get my cable audio to go through my receiver. If a buy a TIVO to do this, do I have to upgrade to their service or can I just use it for the audio?

My guess is that you would need their service also. I'm guessing that you do not have a cable box? Most boxes have separate audio outs you could use. It might be cheaper to upgrade to a cable box than to get a Tivo.

Nope, I don't have a cable box. Cable comes straight out of the wall and I'm in an apartment and can't get a cable box through our no-name shitty provider.

That is FREAKISHLY unbelievable! Seriously, cable companies love to rent the boxes and charge you for them. It makes them buckets of cash, so I'm incredibly suprised they don't have cable boxes. I would be pushing them for the information because it sounds ludicrous that you would have that issue.

I would go to DirecTV in an apartment if the cable was the lousy.

It's a Philips of some kind. I'll get the model number. And yea, it only has a digital coaxial audio out. No analog outs.

Nope, doesn't have this either. It's a pretty featureless TV mine is.

My brother has a Phillips and I was really surprised when I saw it didn't have analog outs. Even my Sanyo CRT HDTV has analog outs!
