That entire arguement fails when figuring the area of a circle which is equal to Pi*r squared. While most formulas do have the 2*Pi value in them, such as circumference, equal to 2*Pi*radius, It would stand to reason that Pi was left equal to 3.14...... for simplification of the area formula, which is used for more often than many other more complex formulas.

I don't see that that argues effectively against my stance. If anything the comments below the article support it.

I'm not sure who came up with the Pi. Some greek gut most likely.:)
But considering the fact it's for 2 to 3 thousand years old, it may be pounding sand to ponder changing it.

We may as well argue that 30 all in tennis is the same as deuce. It really is, effectively, but facts don't change the way the game is scored.

I don't consider pi to be "wrong."

Notation is a painful and difficult experience, it always has been, and it always will be. Such is life.

I certainly don't think after seven years of learning and performing what many would consider to be advanced-to-extremely-advanced mathematics and physics that not defining pi as what we consider to be 2pi is even close to the most grievous notational oversight, but I don't really need to get into that.

On a related note, I think that the first time a professional decided to break out XI (KS-EYE), I almost punched the f-er. :D

Everyone loves Xi!

Actually, I agree - I freaking hate that one. My profs would always draw a random squiggly to represent the lower case one.

It really got bad in advanced controls and advanced solids mechanics. :D

No no heavens no. Real whipped cream and caramel sauce. No that is how to eat apple pie.
A man after my own heart :D.

The caramel has to be nice and hot (preferably at 130-140 degrees) and the whipped cream so thick that when you slice your fork through the glob it maintains its shape.

I thought it would be a fun post and idea.

I think that certainly in many cases 2pi is a better constant.

Especially for radians. Where 1/4 Pi would be a quarter turn.

And Pi would equal Pie!

As it stand now I can sell you 2Pi as 1 Pie. This is far to confusing and breaks the whole number system.

I'm also and advocate of moving to base 8. This drives people crazy, but there are so many advantages. Especially for computers.

So you argument strube is the Tradition! But it used to be Tradition that the world was flat. Sometimes changing something improves us and advances us.

Even if it does neither it's still a fun argument with plenty of intrigue. Speaking of Pie. There is a really good pie place down the street.
