I usually avoid the steam vent because I'd rather stick with facts than argue over opinions. Maybe I'm especially cranky today. I've been sick with the flu all week, probably the H1N1 flu, but who knows? The fever is gone and I thought I was on the mend - and then the wicked coughing kicked in. I've been awake coughing for the last 3 nights and I'm in a rotten mood. So I'm gonna vent some steam.

Even though I'm grouchy cause I had the flu, it sure beats Dengue fever!

So I thought I would list the Things On AH That Piss Me Off. They usually bore me because I've seen them too many times before (especially when I've spent way too much time reading AH threads because I can't sleep for coughing):

Questions about which AV receiver to buy. Especially those from guys who want all the latest bells & whistles but don't want to pay more than $299. Quit reading the Best Buy fliers and find out for yourself. The internet is loaded with this kind of info.

Questions about which speaker cables, interconnects, or surge suppressor to buy. Nuff said! Although I admit I occasionally enjoy ganging up on some cable believer who thinks he can enter the lion's den and argue with the objectivists. Chris357 was a recent example, although his recent posts suggest his opinion on this topic might be changing. I'm glad to see we didn't chase him away.

Questions about whether one should “biamp” with the two unused channels of their 7.1 channel AVR. These guys have obviously read their owners' manuals which seem to suggest this. Shame on the marketing people who were behind this bogus idea.

People who ALWAYS answer some newbie's questions by telling them to get a big iron amplifier.

Vinyl News posts from 3db. We get it already, you like antiquated analog playback systems. Endlessly repeating this has become annoying.

Football threads - only because I'm a Redskins fan :(. I wish teams could trade owners.

The DO NOT BUY anything from AV123 thread. Please shut this thread down. I haven't tried to read this for a long time. What could possibly be discussed that wasn't said early on? Please answer only if you can say it in two sentences or less.

Political threads. Especially those from people who supported the losing side of the last election who think they can loudmouth their way to undoing the voting results. This is a representative democracy. You can't always have your way. Learn to live with the results. I liked it when Nomo said “My problem with the political threads is the fact that when some one I respect from a pure AH.com standpoint posts something that I disagree with politically, and continues to do so, it detracts from my willingness to read anything they have to say.” I have had the same thought more than once.

OK on to more neutral subjects. I have to ask, lsiberian how do you spell your moniker? Is it Eye Siberian with an uppercase letter I, or is it El Siberian with a lower case letter l?

If anyone would like to add to my list, feel free. If you aren't as grouchy as I am this morning, you could always add Things I See On AH That I Never Stop Enjoying No Matter How Stupid They May Seem.

There, rant ended.

Hee, hee. Nice to see what makes you tick, Swerd. :D Seriously, though, I sure hope that you feel better soon and can get some sleep.

I don't really mind any of the "what should I buy" threads. I figure that everyone is at a different stage in this game, and some people just want some advice. Lately, I just don't read those threads because I've been so busy with work, but I don't mind them when I have time. If nothing else, it somewhat helps me keep up with the tech when I read people's responses.

I quite enjoy the "how do I get this to work" threads. They actually make me feel useful. Heck, I can read an owner's manual as well as the next person. Well, almost as well. :) We probably all know people who are just clueless on this stuff (not stupid, by any means - just not knowledgeable about it) that we've helped out. I like making someone's life easier or better, and this stuff is my small contribution to that.

I think that we can get you into a decent system, and we'll want to set you up with one with pre-amp outputs. You'll want to upgrade the system with a big iron amplifier as soon as you can afford it.

:p :D

Big Iron amps are ok, but AVR's with pre-amp outputs are just another way the Liberal HATE-MONGERS are trying to take over the country!! AT SOME POINT THIS HAS TO STOP!!

I thought that was all pretty fair. Hope you get feeling better, that sucks. Being sick for more than 3 days is pretty much bull ****.

Don't forget the the 15" sub with a volume knob that goes to 11 ;). Here's another topic for my list - which is better, a ported or sealed sub?

I kinda like that thread and 3db because of the my recent decent into used vinyl. :p
I mean ... have you given Tom Jones a chance? :)

Thanks for the rant and I would say get well soon but I'm kinda hopin' for another rant. What else goes up your a$$ about a mile? :D

Seriously, feel better soon and did you do anything with that new build yet?

That's it. Now I gotta go do something.;)

Thanks for the replies. They made me laugh :D. I'll have to look into the booze cabinet tonight to see what I have. If I don't have any Scotch, could I drink warm Nyquil instead?

Don't you love the interactive ads that appear on these threads? I noticed my rant attracted an ad for FindFluShots.com.

Remember the Steam Vent thread about toilet seats - up or down? The ads in that thread were hilarious.

I waiting for the man himself to answer, but I can't wait any longer. :D

It's a lower case l ("el").

It's El Siberian

ISiberian would make since. lsiberian

The name is a derivation of my old hacker alias. You can now see how it would be helpful. If I were still a teenage trouble maker you'd have seen all my moniker by now. :D

You can call me either just don't call me shirley.

I've said this a few times actually, but I'm sure folks will miss this.

What pisses me off are long winded posts. I read Luther and then come on here and have to read someone who writes like Luther did(westom, Lord of The Rings)

Political threads are fun for me, but I enjoy a little rivalry.

I really like when an old member rejoins us kind of throws me back to the old times before I cam here.

LOL sorry I couldn't resist acting mad.

I've always wanted to say that in a power strip argument.

Just mentioning that name has planted "What's New Pussycat" in my ear for the last few hours. Thanks. I recently got the best of Booker T & the MGs on CD. Maybe that will erase Tom Jones.

I've not done a thing about it yet. Maybe I'll take a trip to Lowe's to find a suitable saw for the job. I'll try and save any coughing fit for the check out line in case it's too long.

Don't ever mention that to an audiophile - some will laugh, but others will want one for their listening room. It will then be only a matter of time before someone offers them for sale ID, made (of course) with oxygen-free copper.

I kinda amp pissed I got a pro-amp now. I just don't like having to push the power off and on. Maybe you have a workaround for me Swerd.

I think I'm going to go plate amp for my sub now. I can't stand not being able to have an auto on/off feature.

I've thought about a remote button pusher. Anyone know of any?:D
