I was looking at a sub today and it would power up but no sound would come out, nothing at all. so just being noisy I took out the fuze on the back and it had alumuinuim foil rapped around the fuze is this normal? and is it so that you would think that it was a good sub? I took out the foil and put the fuze back in and powered it back up and the power LED would not come back on.
any info.

The foil wrap bypasses the actual fuze, which was probably blown anyways (hence the power LED not turning on when foil removed).

Bypassing the fuze is STUPID (the fuze's job is to protect the sub) and/or DECEPTIVE (if at retail location), steer well clear of that disaster!

Cheers,

A fuse wrapped in foil would negate the purpose of the fuse if my thinking is correct...

What kind of sub is it?

I would unplug it, thats for sure...

It is a KLH asw10 120 It is a cheape but I could not figure out why they would do this. the sub never did give out any sound. not even a hum or crackle. I thought it was wierd.
would that stop the sub from not working?

replace the the OEM recommned fuse.

If you are unsure take it to a audio service center of your choice.

I don't get your confusion I didn't take the sub I thought it was to wierd and nothing worked on it. just wanted to see what everyone thought.
Where is the subwoofer being sold? I think people are asking because they want to stay clear of the place, not because they "just want to know where you bought it".;) People usually ask questions for a reason, but your response would somehow imply the question is pointless or you are trying to avoid answering the question. To this day I don't understand why people try to hide information that isn't helpful for them to hide. Where you considered buying bunk merchandise is sort of important to us, as we don't want to get stuck with junk from that establishment. It certainly doesn't benefit you to hide where you were looking at a broken subwoofer, unless you work there and you took in broken merchandise from a customer that pulls a fast one on you. I could understand not wanting to announce that if you worked there since it would raise some questions about the quality of merchandise that's sold in the establishment.

I'm assuming it's a pawn shop or thrift store of some kind. It's more likely it's a pawn shop because it sounds like something a shady place with some basic understanding of trickery would do. This doesn't imply that all pawn shops are shady, I work for one in fact. However many pawn shops I have been to have exhibited shady behavior in order to disguise broken stuff.

craigslist would have been my third guess. for entertainment purposes, how did that conversation go down?

That particular sub is pretty notorious for dying. or basically malfunctioning on the verge of starting a fire. I used to have one and gave it to a friend and it recently died. Its not really worth fixing. Its a good thing you found the foil wrapped fuse because something like that could be a potential fire hazard among other things.

KLH electronics from the last decade in general are to be avoided.

the guy had a receiver in his garage and he hooked up the sub, power light would come on and no sound. he was just as confused as I was so I just was curious to see if the fuse was blown, pulled the fuse out and there was foil wrapped around the fuse at that point I just told him I was not interested in the sub and left. did some research on the sub and found out it had a lot of problems with it anyway.

The foil was wrapped around the fuse to keep it from blowing and to allow the power light to come on. I expect the seller's confusion was faked.
