House Votes To Cut Off Federal Funding To ACORN

"The House has voted to deny all federal funding for ACORN, the community-organizing group that has been caught up in several scandals.

The House action came several days after the Senate took a similar vote to block the Housing and Urban Development Department from giving grants to ACORN. The Census Bureau last week severed its ties with the group for the 2010 national head-count."

Could this be the beginning of the end for blind euphoria that has run this country for all of this administration so far?

This comes a few days after this this where they said: "ACORN said the Senate's action was disappointing but would have little impact on its overall operations."

Wanna bet?

This isn't enough for me. Some of these folks need to be jailed. I'm sorry but what they did was inexcusable. Supporting illegal immigration is one thing. Slavery is supposed to be illegal and it's high time we do something about it. This is why a guest worker program would be a better plan than what we have now. If someone tries to cross illegally you shoot them. That would solve the problem pretty well. I understand we need guest workers, but we need a system where they can get a fair shake too. As it is now they can be forced into slavery pretty easily. I understand Mexico sucks and have no problem letting the good ones in. In fact maybe we could swap citizens. I don't mind speaking Spanish if it means throwing out some of our problem citizens.

Beginning to the End was when the economy started tanking and Obama caved to Business instead of the people on main street. The problem is the other party needs to get their butt in gear. They need a person with charisma and intelligence. I suggest they start looking hard now. I hope they are keeping that person under wraps so the DNC can't undermine them. Palin may be the candidate in 2012. If so she'll have to work hard to win my vote. There are a few that would get an automatic vote from me, but not many.

It seems Congress is starting to get it. Let's hope this spills over to healthcare and the other issue.

Ever hear of a guy named "Jerry Ford"?

He was the guy that Nixon appointed to take over as president when he stepped down in '73 or 74. He did a pretty good job but, unfortunately, he had no real personality o speak of. He was just a quiet businessman who has his ducks in a row.

His biggest contribution in the short time he was in office was to make Chevy Chase a big star by impersonating him.

When the '76 election came, a nobody named Jimmy Carter came in and won. not based on any great personality or leadership skills, but simply because he wasn't affiliated with Nixon and the republicans, and people sorta equated him with Andy of Mayberry.

As time went on it was acknowledged that Ford didn't do too bad a job considering what he had to work with.

After seeing what he could do, he was ousted by Regan in '80 by a big margin.

It's a shame that a charismatic personality, good looks, or NOT being something can outweigh any other qualifications that might matter, like experience.

That's the drawback of our system. When the VP is more qualified to run our country than the President something is wrong IMO. I'd say that was the case with the last 2 presidents. Arguably with Clinton as well.

But changing the system is dangerous. Congress has more power than the President anyway. They can literally destroy him if they choose.

]flame suit on]Actually, Nixon wasn't a bad president. He just got caught with his hand in the cookie jar. It's not like he was the first to use "dirty tricks" to gain information. He was just the first to get caught.

True, but here's the rub... If congress, the senate and the president are all on the same page, they can totally obviate any opposition, pretty mush like we are now.

If it wasn't for Blue Dog Democrats, we would be up to our eyes in drek. As it now stands, we're only up to our mouth.

Let's hope that 2010 brings a return to a true multi-party system.

I think with Acorn, ther ewas no way they could deny the facts.

Here's some light reading on the investigation if you're curious.

(no, I haven't read the whole thing. I just skimmed through parts of it.)

It means nothing if the senate doesn't follow suit.

I actually would agree on Nixon what he did for foreign policy was major. He was a very important advisor to Clinton on foreign policy. And when the opposite party praises a guy you know he did something right. I think the Clinton's were just as dirty as Nixon. They hid it better and our country benefited from the multi-party system.
