I have a Lenovo T500 laptop and I am wondering what would be a good speaker for listening to music and watching videos? Thanks! I'm thinking about audioengine 5, but I want to hear some other recommendations.

Folks on this forum recommend the passive version of these active monitors from Behringer, http://www.zzounds.com/item--BEHB2031A (I linked the active version since you called out the A5 and they are active speakers).

I do not have any personal experience with them, so maybe someone can chime in.

I use these M-Audio AV 30 active speakers. The reason I chose them over other active speakers is that they are affordable, smaller than most, and still have a great, neutral sound.

At their price point, I don't think there is anything that can compete, except their "big brother" the AV 40, which is actually at a very good price right now:

I have the b2031p's and I love em. However if you are looking for a powered set of speakers, my other recommendation would be the Klipsch Promedia 2.1's. For computer speakers, they sound great for the price. They're much better than any logitech system.

Oh I can't agree with that, from experience. The QC on the Promedia system is where my hatred for Klipsch comes from. I had to warranty my Promedia 5.1 system 3 times! On the third time they finally gave me a brand new replacement and I sold it on eBay as fast as I could.

I would even say the Creative GigaWorks speakers are better in quality than the Klipsch...

wow 3 times? I had 1 problem with my promedia set, but I bought them used so I assumed it was something the previous owner probably did. I never bothered getting it fixed though because I wanted to move into buying home theater components instead of computer speakers.

I don't have a receiver or any amplifying equipments, so active speakers would suit me better (I think). I might get a big TV in the future and just hook up the speaker and the TV to my computer.
