The movie is a 7/10 at best. The trailer was equally as good as the entire movie.

I mean that bar scene...really? REALLY? What a waste of 20 minutes.
The bar scene was the best non-Landa portion of the movie.

Absolutely fabulous in all respects. The bar scene and the Churchill scene were among the most brilliantly assembled, masterful things I've ever experienced in a theater. It wasn't til the next day that I even realized how long the bar scene actually was.

The opening scene, though. Holy cow. The entire thing with Landa and the dairy famer. Beginning to end absolutely blew me away. Reminded me of the gas station/coin flip scene from No Country For Old Men, but even more brilliantly done and complex.

I can't wait to see it again.

That opening scene was so long and so tense and so believable. I saw it a second time and had more appreciation for the fine points. I continue to be fascinated at the fact they they violated the ultimate rule of all historical fiction, which is to not change anything that is big and that everybody knows about. We all know that Hitler and his head hoodies didn't die in a burning theater, but it was so satisfying to see it happen.

A few of Tarantino's movies have those effects. Pulp Fiction is another that pulls it off famously. There are some outrageous, believable, and believable/outrageous scenes in Pulp Fiction.

Great movie, and it looks superb.

However, I had a full house for my first viewing, and it was yet another Universal dud, bad QC, completely froze during the bar scene. jliedeka had the same thing happen, same scene.

That really sucked, big time. What a letdown, for so many of us. Yeah, I got it replaced. But, this should never happen.

And it's Universal who is known for such bad QC. One guy told me he remembers issues with Doomsday, Serenity, Death Race, Wanted, Chronicles of Riddick, and perhaps others. I had a bad HDDVD, the Bourne Ultimatum, and yep, Universal . . .

I am glad I went to see this in the theater. I haven't really had much of an ambition to revisit it on BD yet. Overall it was a lot of fun to watch. Pretty Preposterous. There is no doubt that there are flashes of pure QT brilliance in it. Other times I was really taken out of the movie by some of his choices. Oddly I liked them but still it took me out of the movie while I internally debated with myself how I felt about them. For example once again he references Leone in the opening scene with the music and the whole cat and mouse dialog. I was thinking " the good the bad and the ugly again?" yes again. And then there was the Bowie song. I was really taken out of the action while I decided if this was working or not? i don't think I came to a conclusion on that one. However there were definitely great scenes. Like all of the scenes with Landa. And the eruption of violence in the bar—again a Leone-ism to have a long drawn out build up to violence and then have it be over in a flash...film school 101 stuff, but cool. Sometimes I wish the real QT would just stand up and quit being so referential. I know that Scorsesse does it and others but I think you can go to that well once too often.
