My receiver outputs the 12v trigger by a 3.5mm stereo signal, while my amp inputs it by a 3.5mm MONO. If I get a stereo to mono/mono splitter and just use one side of the split, will it work? I have tried a search for stereo to mono cables and can't find anything. I don't want to fry anything. Thanks for any suggestions.

I think I needed a mono as well for a trigger (when I used to actually use one), and I just used a stereo one that worked fine. Couple of bux at rat shack.

It will work just fine.

Makes no sense to have a stereo 12v trigger unless something else is going on inside the cabling. Almost all 12v triggers are mono connections. Either way, I would think a standard 1/8" stereo to 1/8" stereo would be fine.
