Is your PS3 the slim one that came out this month?

If it isn't working in bitstream, try setting it to PCM until Sony figures it out.

You never stated which PS3 you have, that's an important factor. I was unable to discern which one you have from your opening post.

yes thx i already set it on pcm...in bitstream it wont give me all of the hd sounds
I set mine to bitstream, then I select HDMI automatic, all the HD and non HD codecs, 24 in total, are listed including LPCM 7.1 192 kHz and DTS-HD Master Audio.

If you select HDMI manual, and you want to force the player to output LPCM, then you have to unchecked all the other boxes including DD5.1 and DTS5.1, leaving only the LPCM boxes checked.

I don't think you need the latest FW3.0 to bitstream HD sound but did you have yours updated?

I think they meant: "any secondary content, like menu beeps or the audio that accompanies Picture-in-Picture interactive features is not part of the original bitstream and will not be transmitted. Audio commentaries and alternative-language audio may also be affected, depending on how the disc was authored. The only way to send the additional content is by allowing the disc player to perform the audio decoding itself, during which the player mixes the new material on top of the movie soundtrack for transmission in either PCM or analog format. In some cases, you may lose the lossless soundtrack. If you are watching a movie with the Bonus View features enabled, and you want to restore the high resolution audio, it may require you to stop the disc playback to go to the player’s setup menu, and that can be a big nuisance."

The above are quoted from a post over at blu-ray.com forum (http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=41820)

The poster seems quite knowledgeable on this topic so I strongly recommend you read the whole thing, or at least the paragraph under the heading "THE IMPLICATIONS OF DIGITAL BITSTREAMING ON AUDIO IN BONUS VIEW FEATURES"

I also read about this issue discussed in more than one reviews done buy some AV magazine but I do not remember which one.

Anyway, with the slim 120G you have the options of forcing it to output LPCM or bitstream. I don't care about those bonus view things and I prefer to let my receiver do the decoding. If I had an entry level receiver, I might have opted for LPCM.

i once again called sony and the guy told me i should wait for the next update and that my ps3 version isnt prolly able to read all the bitstreams codecs yet...he also admitted that there are some problems that they must fix and just wait for the new update...so ill be patient.

That's too bad! So far mine does everything it is supposed to do whether I force it to LPCM or set it to bit stream. It decodes HD codecs either way. Could you not exchange yours for another one?

The only thing that made me concerned a little was the HCC review that showed its DVD upscaling not as good as the old one but may be that's only the case for the UK (PAL) version. I am watching Spider Man DVD right now and it looks pretty close to Blu Ray (I hope no one will attack me for saying this:D).
