B&W looks to have a solid contender with this sub. The ASW12-CM sub sports a 12" Kevlar/paper cone driver and a 500 watt amp. With its gloss black finish and sub 20Hz capability, those in love (or lust) with the B&W brand are sure to be salivating.

I'm a B&W fan boy (though I object to the pejorative sense of that phrase). I love my 603s and 600 and, just like the article states, wish I could afford something bigger and better from B&W (in fact, the only reason I got mine was because I bought the dealer's demo models for a 30% discount)...

But to say that B&W hasn't had a strong entry in the home theater sub market is probably an understatement. This sub, though, looks pretty awesome. The sealed design and resulting small size is gonna up its WAF.

But, bummer, at $2K, it's not gonna end up in my HT rig any time soon.

So, it looks like I'm (when the $ becomes available) gonna have to stick with either SVS or eDesigns as I'd like to spend my $ on American-made / Rust-and-Corn-belt-made products. Nothing wrong with them (as they have their own gangs of fan boys!!!), either. I just like my B&Ws.

Some day, when I win the lottery....

Instead of spending $2000 on a B&W sub you could get two black sealed 12" subs from rythmik audio which are also compact 15.75x15.75x18.5" these go right down to 14Hz and they are $799 each from a dedicated subwoofer manufacturer. If you want shiny they also do shiny but it costs another $200. If you want to save a bit of cash you can buy a kit and build them yourself. A quick google around and you will find that they sound pretty darn good too.

the rythmik deal sounds better but you can get the P7 - 650 Subwoofer pair from elemental designs for $2100, they go under 16hz and have 1300Wrms. and they use the 13Av.2 driver so its going to be crazy stuff.

It sounds as though this sub was specifically designed to be marketed to the 'fanboys'. At a $2000 price point there are way too many better homegrown options to be had for much less money.

A good majority of the people that buy a B&W products are most likely not aware/interested in "no brand recognition" products and have more money than they care to spend time on Google and forums.

+1. It is probably good for the folks that think Bose is low end and have way more money than folks that buy Bose.

Can somebody explain B&W's specs on this?:

Frequency range -6dB at 18Hz and 25/140Hz adjustable (EQ at A)
Frequency response ±3dB 25Hz – 40/140Hz adjustable (EQ at A)

Why is the low frequency for -6dB (18Hz) different from the low frequency for ±3dB (25Hz)? Isn't the top of either range always the highest output level?

[Edit]
Ok, I found an answer. It turns out that Googling for "±3dB" didn't give good results: +/-3 dB or -6 dB: What’s the Difference?

We need a CEA measurement of the B&W flagship Subwoofer. :D

This sub wasn't made for big output, so who cares about CEA here. I would be more interested in seeing the other metrics, distortion, group delay, decay, compression, etc, in conjunction with output measurements.

I was referring to their flagship sub, not THIS sub.

But who cares about CEA for this sub?

Guys who do care.

Just because you don't care doesn't mean others don't care.

You don't think your opinion is the only one that matters, do you?
