I think I have posted this pic before...but.........

Hours spent under the stars with your son........(priceless)

I recently bought a new smaller telescope that I can use easily in the backyard. (my other scope...Tubby is in the background) I've had some serious quality father/son time under the stars with the new smaller scope..

You can't put a price on that quality time......

Where are the astronomy guys/gals?

As you can tell...I am a dob guy:)

Anyone?

Man, I always wanted to get into astronomy. Looked at scopes but always decided against.

night time + outdoors + rural area + Florida = mega mosquitoes

Nice to see your son is interested.

My son liked to look at things when he was that age, but now that he is 16, he is really not interested anymore.

Here is a rundown of our scopes...

15 inch Discovery truss dob
10 inch Coulter dob (classic red tube)
10 inch Meade newt on a big heavy equatorial
6 inch f8 hand made dob
Celestron C-6 maksutov (classic orange tube)
Edmond Sci. AsroScan
A "solar scope" made from an old camera zoom lens with Baader solar filter
Coranado PST

That pretty much covers it except for a few "Walmart Meade" scopes people have given me because they were crap and just collecting dust.

I used to have a 10" LX200 GPS but now that I live in Juneau, not much point. Next time I live in an area that doesn't rain almost every day I'll definitely pick up another scope though.

We have them too..............If you live in a rural area, that is a major plus!!

I never leave for a telescope trip without the necessities.........

Wow...nice collection!!

Mine are 8" & 16". The smaller scope will be used strictly for backyard use.....and I take the 16" to dark skies. We (my astronomy club) have a very nice dark site that is only a 1 hr drive from my home. According to the Bortle scale....they are borderline 3/4 skies...which isn't too shabby for a 1hr drive. Living west of the Mississippi helps....Definitely a 6+ visual magnitude.......

I didn't see the peak, but I did see the brightest fireball I have ever seen last month. It left a train that lasted for 5 minutes!!

It was soo bright, it left shadows like a big flare. Truly amazing.....the brightest meteor I have ever seen.
