Giving away Teacup size Yorkshire Terrier

I have a small dog, a very small dog (2.9 lbs full grown) that due to his size his liver does not function and requires surgery, a liver shunt to be exact. If anyone is interested in taking over the responsibility of such a dog PM me.

We will give him away to someone willing to take care of the problem and not just let him live on in pain. Our options at this point are find someone that will take care of him or put him to sleep.

He is a really good dog, just has this medical issue and we aren't in the financial position to pay for dog surgery.

Here is a pic after we butched his hair. Yorkie's are hypoallergenic and don't shed so it will grow and grow if you don't cut it.

Wow thats sad! My daughter is dying for a teacup yorkie or yorkie poo mix. To bad we're miles away...

Well I don't want to scare everyone away at once

In Boise, Idaho, the surgery was quoted at $2500.00 and had to be done by a specialist. Come to find out that Boise doesn't even have a specialist for this type of thing and we would have to take him up north to Washington State Veterinary Medical Center.

We found a local vet that would have done the surgery in exchange for the dog but he didn't have a couple of the tools he would have needed for the surgery.

The only way I see Brutus with a chance is if someone is a vet or knows a vet that will hook them up on the surgery.

We'd be willing to pay for shipping costs to send the dog somewhere, granted there was credible evidence that the surgery would happen.

We also have our local Humane Society doing some digging for us on other solutions.

There you go...it's all out on the table now.

We don't have kids so we consider our dogs to be our kids and treat them that way.

I am really attached to our Yorkie and would likely spend every penny I had if something was wrong with her.

I really hope you can come up with a way to raise the money and keep the dog. Auction off some AV gear.

I can imagine that the decision to give up the pup is a last option and could not have been an easy one to accept. But, I believe it should not be an option at all since you would not be doing the same if he were your kid...

Brutus is still with us, his bladder stones have not fallen back down into his urethra (which if that happens it's off to the emergency vet). We are following some Vet recommendations on diet which makes the liver shunt manageable for a time but we are only buying time.

And not to come across as an animal hater, but I have 3 kids who I would give my life for, and I would definitely pay for a 2500 surgery for my kids. Brutus, however, although he is loved, is not loved like one of my children.
I respect those that feel that way towards their dogs, I'm just not one of them.

Hopefully we have a solution before his stones cause serious problems.

People generally don't make their kids crap in the yard and eat mush out of a dish from the floor, so I don't really see the necessity for treating one exactly like the other.

Woed. The difference in my case is that Niki actually sleeps on a bed.

Not to derail the original topic, though. I've already made Niki wait too long to go for a walk this morning, so I'll make this brief. I think that Guiria is doing a good thing in asking if anyone would be willing to take Brutus home and care for him. Not everyone can relate to having limited resources to the extent that you must choose between lives, either those of your human family or those of your extended non-human family. As I said, I wish them all the best.
