DVD/SACD Player w/ HDMI 1.2?

I've been looking around for an upscaling DVD player with SACD playback and HDMI 1.2. Is there even one made? All of the Sonys I've seen only use HDMI 1.1. 1.2 supports DSD over HDMI which is a feature I would like to have. Maybe Pioneer makes one?

I just bought the Oppo DV-980H, and it has what you are wanting.

In addition to upscaling DVDs quite nicely and supporting SACD over HDMI, it also supports DVD-A over HDMI.

Oppo? Never even heard of them. Is it a good brand? Does the player support mp3's?

Now this is where I get *very* critical. My current DVD/SACD has a S/N ratio of 115 dB, 103 dB dynamic range, and 0.003% harmonic distortion. How does the Oppo match up? I noticed it said >100 dB S/N ratio and <0.01% harmonic distortion, but that's a little vague. I want some hard numbers.

I don't have any hard numbers for you, but others might. Oppo is a highly regarded brand here and elsewhere. You can check out the Audioholics professional reviews on their gear, as well as check online. Amazon has many reviews of that unit.

Thanks for the info on that. Eventually we're getting a PS3 during tax time next year, or maybe during X-mas this year, but I only have a SDTV right now. So I'm looking for something to maximize my DVD/SACD collection for the moment until we get the PS3 and an HDTV. DVD-Audio isn't a necessity since I don't have any DVD-A media, but that is a plus to have nonetheless. The only problem is, it doesn't support mp3's.

If the Oppo Blu-ray player was good enough for Lexicon to rebadge it and mark it up about $4000 I'd say that Oppo has something going on. Oppo is very highly regarded.

I'm assuming that you're talking about the Oppo 980. You had me curious as I hadn't tried it, so I popped in a disc of MP3 files - and it plays them just great. It displays a list of the files, shows the titles and bitrates when playing, and it even has a little equalizer display.

The monkey has spoken. But I'm inclined to stick with Adams recommendation as it is the one that for dollars vs performance is the best. To the op does your avr handle DSD over hdmi?

Alex please don't shake your stick at me.

:)

Not there is anything wrong with that Rick.

I think you missed the fine print in the post. It may be easier to read highlighted. ;)

Awesome. It's funny Oppo doesn't have that info on their website or data sheet.
Now if I could just find out the actual S/N ratio and dynamic range numbers....

My receiver has HDMI 1.3a, so yes it does.

just kidding. oppo is well regarded here as has been mentioned by what's his name. :D
Pardon my ignorance, but I honestly never heard of this brand before. I had to know if it was a worthy brand to check into and not Sylvania or Zenith or something like that I could buy at Walmart. Walmart, ugh....

Believe it or not, DSD decoding over HDMI is not a pre-requisite just because your AVR has HDMI 1.3a. However I am pretty certain that Onkyo covered DSD support for 5.1 on your model.
