Dedicated BR Player....

Well I have been on the fence about a stand alone blu-ray player for a while not but want to make the jump to one as the fan noise from my PS3 after about an hour of viewing drives me crazy. I plan on keeping my Denon DVD-3910 for standard DVD's and audio listening...but wanted suggestions on good stand alone BR players.

The Denon DVD-2500BTCI can be had cheap these days and will work with my 3808ci...but I wasn't sure if any of the newer offerings like Panny BD80K, or Sony S560 would be good alternatives. I appreciate any input on the subject....I will just be thrilled to not have to hear fan noise as the room is not large and can easily be heard from inside my entertainment center...

Or on the flip-side should I just sell the 3910 and get something like the Oppo or Denon 3800BDCI...??

it seems to me that the more I read on here and other places that the oppo is the way to go for blu ray and anything else you want to throw at it. It was good enough for lexicon to put their name and 3k on. you can also for a little money go to one of those mod companies and get one that is suped up not sure what that does but it sounds cool

I haven't seen reviews of the new Denon's, but the DBP2010CI features Anchor Bay like the Oppo but it doesn't do SACD/DVD-A as far as I can tell and costs more. For the price, the Oppo would be (and obviously was) my choice as well.

Yeah, it seems that for the performance and price the Oppo is the unit that has it all right now. I do like the build of the Denon's but given the price the only BR player I would get from them at the moment really would be the 2500BTCI ($299 shipped on Amazon at the moment)...

I love my 3910, it's built like a tank and I think it has marvelous audio quality when it comes to CD listening....it does a good enough job upconverting DVDs...what it doesn't do my Pioneer display takes care of....

The Oppo is as good if not better than my 2900 which I had kept around for DVD-A and SACD listening. I have retired the 2900 from my main system in favor of the Oppo The 2ch DACs in my receiver actually sound better than the 2ch ones from the Oppo, but the multichannel analog outs from the Oppo sound better than either of them.

I stopped buying Denon stuff after my $600 dvd 2200(i think) started having loading problems after about 6 months.. the open close mechanism was horrible sometimes it would open and sometimes not.. it was also very very picky with the disk quality they had to be spotless. I'm sure they are fine but for the money I woudl not trust them again.. I also had poor quality on a 5 cd player dcm460 I think that had a bad squeak every time it changed cd's..

There's a pretty big difference between the mid and low range Denons and the higher models. My 2900 is about 8 yrs old now and works flawlessly. I had a $2200 also and the difference in build quality was the most noticeable difference.

Was it a DVD-2200 or a $2200 model?

I love my DVD-3930ci, and will prob replace it with the OPPO BDP, but only when it gives up the ghost. Until then I'll have no problems listening to music with it.

I'm thinking of doing the same with my sony, and my CD player(marantz DVD) I have just a few SACD's and DVD A's to kinda want something that can do it.

I have the same universal and TV and I have 2 BD players to play BR discs only, a Toshiba XDE-500 to play DVDs, and the 3910 to play everything else. One universal remote takes care of the multiple choices.

I would love to own the OPPO but I doubt it will outperform what I have by much. I prefer separates and it wasn't for the DVD-A I would have never purchased the 3910 either. If I were you I would just buy a dedicated BD player unless you can fetch good money for the 3910.

Yeah, but a lot of people don't have room or want to dedicate that much space. For us/them, the universal players are ideal.

The 3910 should offer better audio quality and the Oppo would likely beat the Denon in video quality but I don't think the differences are easily noticeable. If you have the space for an additional player, it is better to have two players than one for the obvious reasons. $299 shipped for the 2500 btci seems like a good ideal but so is the $200highly regarded Panasonic DMP-BD60.
