I'm not sure how Pioneer does it but with Marantz when you use 7.1 with aux2 you have to hit the 7.1 button on the remote.

Analog Inputs not Working

Thanks I'm only getting the mains working at all and they sound muffled. It is annoying as I won't be able to get much for it(as I hope to get a Marantz soon) if the 7.1 inputs are broken(for lack of a better term). On the pioneer there is a multi-Channel button that you push to access the analog inputs.

On page 31 from your BD55 manual, set the Digital Audio Output to "Bitstream".

Then, set the BD-Video Secondary Audio to "Off".

From page 32, set the Analog Audio Output to "7.1ch", if your setup is a 7.1-channel configuration.
And on page 34, do the multichannel analog bass management setup,
and don't forget to click on "Complete", when done.
>>> Anytime you make a change in that section, you have to click on "Complete", each and every time, it is very important.

* I know, I also got the BD55, and used it the same way than you do.

** And do plug the eight (8) analog interconnects, with extra care, from page 12 (Connecting to 7.1ch Audio Out terminal, section E).

Hi Bob: Did what you suggested did not work.So I'll make due with the old surround formats until I can get the $$$$ to replace the 56txi.A quick question do you think the Marantz 5003 is a major step down in amp quality from the 6003/7001? Thanks

Hi. Did you set the "HDMI Audio Output" to "Off" as described on page 32 of the DMP-BD55 manual? The manual suggests doing that if you use the analog outputs and are also using the HDMI to connect to a TV.

Hi Adam: Thanks I tried that no difference so I'm going to start saving the $$$$ to replace the receiver soon.

Marantz Reciever

Hi Adam: A quick question do you think the Marantz 5003 is a major step down in amp quality from the 6003/7001? Thanks,I'm using Axiom M-60's as mains,VP-150 as a center,Mirage 190's as surrounds for now,Axiom-350 sub, room size about 2,000 cubic ft.

I'm not going to try and talk you out of upgrading :), but I do have some suggestions.

First, check if the surround mode is set to "Stereo" for the multichannel input. I honestly can't remember if that's an option (I used to use the multichannel inputs on my Pioneer).

Second (and I say this only because I don't want to assume something), make sure that the speakers are set to be on in the receiver menu.

Third, I'd suggest trying to connect other sources to those inputs. Try connecting a set of stereo connections (left/right audio) into the front left/right multichannel inputs, then into the surround left/right multichannel inputs, then into the center...and so on. That way, you could check if the inputs are working. If they are working, then it's either the outputs from the blu-ray player (that could be checked in a similar fashion), or it's something in the set-up of the two components.

You're probably aware that the MCACC settings are not used with the multichannel inputs. That will certainly affect the sound. I couldn't stand that, and I purchased a new VSX-23 so that I could send SACD and DVD-A directly through HDMI. However, the MCACC being turned off wouldn't cause you to not hear sound from anything but the front speakers.

I'd love to be able to answer that for you, but I honestly don't know.

That's too bad. You shouldn't give it up so soon. It's right there in front of you. Just take your time to read the manual again, and I bet that you'll come up with the final eureka solution. :)

* As for the Marantz SR5003, I read several comments from owners that said the SR6000 series, and of course the SR7000 series, are better sounding, with a fuller sound, and better punch.
So, from that, I will stick with the SR6000 series or higher.

Cheers,
Bob
