the ascend package (the 340 speakers) + hsu sub

and

the Hsu package with vtf3

Ascend actually used to offer speaker packages that included HSU subwoofers, before HSU started selling speakers. Nowadays Ascend has an arrangement with Rythmik. I think the Rythmiks would be great subwoofers too, but probably not be as good as VTF3 for home theater at the same price point. For musical detail though, I wouldn't doubt that they are better, and that is saying a lot given HSU's reputation for sound quality.

If you go with HSU, just ask for the enthusiast 2 package and upgrade the sub from the VTF2 to the VTF3, that is if you don't need all the speakers in the enthusiast 3 package. For whatever reason HSU doesn't have a five speaker package with the VTF3, but they will offer the same sort of discount if you ask.

Either one you pick, you will end up with a great speaker system.

yea that's what i would do. i'm still trying to decide if i wanna go the Hsu route or the other route. the moving sale from Ascend seems like a good deal.

no i haven't but when i go down to LA, i will demo both

Sounds like a good plan. If you are auditioning at the manufacturers site, it gives you the opportunity to compare multiple speakers.

I'm just trying to save others from making the same mistakes I made, 7 years ago.

Hey, if you want dry, cold, sterile, harsh sounding speakers completely void of anything remotely resembling musicality. Go with Paradigm! They deliver exactly that.

If you want smooth, musical speakers that actually convey the sweet melody of music. You may want to look elsewhere.

If you want a company that supports their product warranty and provides respectable customer service, regardless if you're American or Canadien.

Try something other than Paradigm.

Personal experience.
