Hi,

I just got 1 pair of Ascend Acoustics CMT-340 Classic speakers.
I plan to get a sub. Right now I'm thinking of getting either the HSU-VTF2 or SVS-PB10-NSD. What other sub do you guys think I should get?

Also, I'm wondering which receiver I should get to power those.

Thanks.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

About a #1,200 A/V receiver for only $350? And it's a Marantz too.

Hi kng,

These are two excellent subwoofers. But my own personal preference
would be the SVS PB10-NSD. Again, that's just me.

* Now you are asking about a receiver to power your Ascend Acoustics CMT-340 Classic speakers.

About this one: @ http://accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/MarSR6001/Marantz/SR6001-receiver-100w-x-7ch-HDMI-home-theater-surround/1.html

Can't beat that. :)

Thanks Bob.

I forgot to mention that I need only 5.1 channels, newest Dolby decodings (Dolby-TrueHD, DTS-HD...), has at least preouts for fronts.

How large is your room and how much are you willing to spend?

I know, but the two extra channel of amplification are free anyway.
And besides, you can use them to power two extra speakers in your bedroom. :)

Ok, it doesn't have the internal decoders, but it's not a big deal at all, as your Blu-ray player can do the decoding, and send the audio signal as Multichannel Linear PCM, which you still have the full resolution of Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA. :)

And it has preout for ALL channels. :)

*** See, it still does all the stuff you want.

Thanks Bob :D

AVrat, the room is about 22' x 15' x 8'. The spending limit is around $300.

for that price range I'd look for an Onkyo 6xx series. Maybe you can find a demo 606 from last year. It'll do the HD audio formats and provide decent power. Just watch the heat output...

Ya, the 606 is a nice receiver for $319.99

It does have HDMI version 1.3, so it has the internal decoders for
Dolby TrueHD & DTS-HD MA.

But it does not have all the preouts of the Marantz SR6001, which is only $30 more.
Also, it only has the Audyssey 2EQ version.
Also, it does not have the weight, the panache, the grace, the looks, the impunity,
the subtility, the purity, the coolness, the total overallness of the Marantz SR6001. :)

heh, what was that about subtlety? ;)

The thing with the Onkyo is it's more widely available than the Marantz. But yeah, if you can find the SR6001, especially for <$400 then I'd say jump on it right away!

I'd much rather tell someone I have a Marantz than an Onkyo, despite Onkyo being the "on" in "Denon".

Oups! Sorry for the mispelling.

"Subtlety": [Finely woven or built, fr. sub- under, near + tela web] :)
1. Hardly noticeable: Delicate, Refined. 2. Shrewd, Keen. 3. Clever, Sly.

* I'll say it's quite appropriate, no? :)

** Oh, I'm very proud to say that I'm the owner of an Onkyo TX-SR805. :)
Of course, also of my Onkyo TX-SR876. :)

Same for my Denon AVR-3805. :)

Just like I also was, when I bought my Marantz SR-18. :)

And my Yammy RX-V2092. :)

And my Pioneer VSX-9300s. :)

And my Kenwood KR-5010 (only paid $15 for it). :)

*** So I'll say I'm a proud owner of all these brands of receivers. :)

{I got lots of other good stuff from other manufacturers too.}
