Hey,
How much has cd player technology changed?
I've got an old Sony 5-CD changer from the late 80's, it still functions fine.
Is it obsolete?

Thanks,
Kurt

If it sounds good to you, I say keep using it. Nothing wrong with that. I was reading a thread on another forum that compared a player relased this year with one that was 20 years old. Each had its strengths, but no clear winner. Comes down to personal tastes.

You reminded me of something.
When CD units first came out, Technics made one which had a feature to indicate the songs you didn't want to hear. I love this idea - generally when I want to listen to a CD there are one or two songs I could skip.
Unfortunately, by the time I bought mine, that model was replaced and I could no longer find that feature. The later models required you to indicate which songs you want to play. For me, that typically meant programming in 14 to 18 songs - so it was generally too much trouble. Does anyone know if the ability to cull songs was ever re-established (or do I really just need to go to a PC for a music server)?.

Cheers,
Kurt

I don't know of any players that will do what you mentioned, but that doesn't mean there isn't one out there that will. That's the reason I use mainly use the computer for playback. I don't think I've used my cd player in months.

I think the player you're referring to was the SL-P8. There was also a SL-P7 but I'm not sure if it also had that feature. U might b able to find one second hand on ebay, who knows?

Seriously, I have no life.
What does that mean?
It means it will play audio CDs to red book, It will not play CD-Rs etc. Players of that generation only play factory stamped discs, not laser burnt discs.
