Wanting advice for first subwoofer enclosure build.

I have been wanting to build a 12" subwoofer enclosure for a long time but never had the chance. I am finally doing it now and need some advice.
1. What material is the best for building it out of?
2. What design is the best for a home theater? (I am thinking about just building the standard vented design.)
3. Where can I get some blueprints for a good enclosure?

Sorry if these seem like dumb questions but I am new at this.
