Blu-ray player that also plays HD-DVD?

They do exist, but you have to buy old LG or Samsung combo players on fleaBay or Amazon used from back before the battle for HD-DVD was lost, or purchase an LG GGW-H20L from Newegg and put it in an HTPC.

I think you are better off finding a used HD DVD player and buying a new Blu-Ray player and just having two units though, as those old players weren't too good, and the Blu-Ray format has been updated since they were released.

I agree with strube, I would pick up a dedicated HD DVD player if you really need one, rather than a combination player because they are going to be less expensive.

I agree, plus you have a better chance of getting one with fewer problems.
I had the Samsung 5000 for a while, and actually worked fine for me..it was only the want of an advanced BD player that had me give it up.
I also needed analog mch connections the LG did not offer at the time.

I would take a Toshiba any day over an LG or Samsung dual player if I wanted HD DVD. Team it with a Panasonic BD player and you will have the best of both worlds. Easy for me to say that now that I have an Oppo. ;)

I bought a HD-DVD player from a member here and just received it today. I had been hoping the noise I was seeing was just due to my cheap Best Buy brand DVD player. Turns out it's the TV so this just adds to my case that we need a projector.....

I also got an earful for buying "obsolete technology" (shhhh not in front of the player...)

The sound is amazing though. I noticed that right away. My DVD player only had analog L/R audio-out while the Toshiba A2 has optical. Things still look better in 1080i but the noise my TV introduces can be kind of distracting once you realize it's there.

I'm sure I'll get a BR player at some point in the future upgrade schemes, but I don't see a need right now. I have "Serenity" and "Planet Earth" on order from Amazon and am looking forward to them.

Not audible noise, visual noise. You know how on digital cameras if you jack up the ISO or the like you get random mis-colored pixals? I get a similar visual effect except its very subtle. It's more akin to the wrong shade mixed in with the right shade. It's not a gradient issue, just dark/slightly off color on solid color objects like walls and the sky and stuff.
