Anyone had experience with these? Fry's has the 10 ft for $1.99 in the Phoenix area. I'm strongly considering buying a few because they are so inexpensive.

For $2, how wrong can you go? :)
Hard to say- they could be so bad his ears will turn into seething scabs and he'll be miserable for the rest of his pitiable existence. Plus, he wouldn't even be able to sell them at a yard sale.

Sorry. This may be one of those "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is" deals.

A lot of the speaker cable looks like it has PVC insulation and that's very corrosive to the wire, plus it's not in-wall rated. If you're only looking at the HDMI, I guess you could try one. If it works, great.

The coax may not have solid copper center conductor and that means the coller clad steel will be much stiffer. Tight bends usually cause the dielectric to compress and this limits bandwidth/reduces noise rejection.

I'm with highfigh on this ... pretty wrong in terms of SQ and PQ. I may not know much about it but I know that I don't trust it. Even though BMXTRIX can't say enough good things about monoprice, for HDMI I like BJC even though they sent MinustheBear (I think) a dirty optical audio cable once.

Let me rephrase - "For $2, how much will you care if it doesn't work well?"

Satisfied? :D

Sure, sure...that's like two Whopper juniors, so some people would care a lot.

They're normally $7.99 which is still more expensive than monoprice. Who knows, maybe they come from the same factory. I'll let you know if they adequately work if I make the trip out to get 'em.

I'm with highfigh. Why avoid Mono, or BJC, for the same or less, when you KNOW those will work well?

Also, it seems you are buying these for some "future possibility"? Well, at least in my own experiences, it would be very difficult to predict the desired length anyways. When you need it, then get it, and you'll know the length you want. Heck, I've already used 15, 25, and 35 footers just for the PJ.

And Monoprice, well at least in CA (but perhaps others places too), offers next day service for a minimal fee. IOW, it would probably get to you more quickly than you can return to fry's.

From my guesstimate of the pic, the BJC is slightly thicker than that, and the Mono cables are much thicker than that. IOW, I don't think they're from the same place.

I'm looking for a 10 ft cable and the cost for a monoprice cable is at least $11.00 with shipping. The least expensive cable in that general length is from parts-express.com.

The connectivity is to simply have another open HDMI cable that I can hook the HDcam up to to watch videos off of in HD.

Pat,

I did a quick check and found a 10-footer shipped from Monoprice for $9.69 (that includes $4.95 for shipping, which should be the same for Phoenix - I even checked one of the zip codes up there). It's this one here that I got for myself (available in many colors). One nice thing is that the shipping hardly increases if you decide to buy two...or three.

If I make it out to Fry's I'll pick up two. One will be for use and the other will be a sacrificial lamb. I'll post photos of it torn apart.

Thanks for all your thoughts. Maybe I'll just bite the bullet and buy a 15 footer because that's what I really could use for some extra slack and reaching the couch.

Purchased 3 cables. One (the only one tried) works fine. I'll post photos of the "guts" of one of them in the coming day.

Photos

They flex reasonably well.
The outer jacket is PVC. Their website actually states this. The entire jacket is actually one piece from connector to connector.
Inside there is a copper braid followed by foil and then the wiring.

The $1.99 cable at Fry's was found near the Computer Cables section. It was actually off to the side and hidden away from everything else. This is the Shaxon Economy line of HDMI cables.

They work fine. Well...except for this one...

The photos are large and can be zoomed in quite a bit without losing image quality.
