Infinity Beta 20s (5.1) or The Speaker Company TST1/2 5.1 package?? Which is better?

Ok... I have come a long way with the help of you folks on the boards here. My eyes do feel like they will soon start bleeding, but for good reason.

My intention was to get a 5.1 system that is better than your typical HTIB. My budget is/was $600, but that is flexible by about $100-200. This would only be for the 5 speakers and woofer. I have a recv'r and DVD player.

The two main options I am tossing around are:

5 infinity beta 20s (two rears wall mounted. If one of them falls, it will probably kill someone...)

dayton sub

or...

The Speaker Company TST1 or TST2 package

If some of you experienced audioholics could lend your knowledge, it would be much appreciated! Next, I am ordering whichever prevails.

Thanks,

Andrew

The Beta 20 on the rear might be overkill. They aren't made for wall mounting.

Get a pair of Kef 2001.2s like I have. They are easy to mount and have excellent sound.

I think the Beta's would sound better, but if you want to demo them look for a Revel dealer. They are essentially the same speaker in the Revel Concerta series.

They have auctions that regularly go for 50 bucks each shipped.:D For 130 you might as well get a pair of Behringer 2030p's.;)

The 20's are pretty heavy for wall mounting, but a couple of sturdy stands may work if your HT area isn't too chaotic.

Well, it just got a little more chaotic than i thought. I nabbed a pair of Infinity Beta 50s for $250. These things are huge. But people say if I was inpressed by the Primus 362 floorstands, then these will blow me away. So I'm stoked about the purchase.

Now I just need some rears, center, and AVR......

For an AVR grab a HK AVR 254 from the ebay store.

While your at it nab a pair of bookshelf speakers. Anything on their will work with the beta's since they all share drivers and designs.

The Beta's are equal to the Revel Concerta series(they are it actually)

Ya, I've been hearing a lot of talk about the HK 254. I'll keep my eyes on the auctions. I was looking in the HK store for bookshelf speakers and they all seem to be JBL. Is this what you were talking about?? Meaning JBL share the same drivers and design? Or was I supposed to look for another brand speaker on the HK eBay store?

thanks!

WOW, $250 for the 50s. You got a great deal my friend. For the center, I would definitely recommend the 360 over the 250 because of the way the drivers are set. The 250 might have certain nulls depending on the room for people sitting off axis. The 360 with it's dedicated midrange shouldn't have this problem.

As for rears. Beta 10s or 20s would be ideal, especially if you plan on doing any multichannel music listening. However if size is a concern, and you can't find the 10s for cheap, I think Kef has a few speakers that lsiberian usually recommends.
