Hello... I'm looking for a small sub that will complement my bedroom (12 x 14) music only system that consists of the following gear:

Audible Illusions Modulus 3A Tube Pre-Amp
VTL ST85 Tube Amplifier
Anthem CD1 Tube CD Player
Emotiva ERD-1 Speakers

I was looking at the following subs; however, any additional recommendations are welcomed:

Velodyne Impactmini
Velodyne Impact 10
HSU STF-1
HSU STF-2

Main concerns... sound quality and relatively small size. Not looking to shake the walls, but provide added depth and dimension to music. I mainly listen to Jazz, R&B and anything else with a good beat.

Thanks in advance for your time...

Along those same lines, the Outlaw LFM-1 Compact, $399. It is also an HSU design, it is a lot like the STF2 but it has a slightly more powerful amplifier and is bottom ported.

Add the Sunfire hrs to your list. They are very tight and accurate. I added them to my vacation property and was blown away.

Check the SVS SB12-Plus subwoofer; it's a sealed (closed enclosure) sub.

Or for a ported (vented) one, look at the SVS PB10-NSD.

And, check the HSU Research VTF-1 sub, and the STF-2 or the STF-1.

Also, have a look to REL T-1, T-2 or T-3.
* The Rel T-3 would do for the size of your room.

These are great brands for sub, and the'll do for your system and room's size.

Thanks for the additional info; however, the SVS is slightly larger than I wanted to go with in the bedroom.

I'm considering one of the HRU subs...

Double check your specifications - I just ordered a SVS SB12-Plus because it is substantially smaller than the ones you are looking at. The SB12-Plus trades a slight bit of performance and some money for the compact size, but I found it to be the best compromise for my situation.

The SVS SB12-Plus measures 15” deep x 14" wide x 14 " high and weighs 40 lbs.

Sunfire HRS 12 is a 13.5" cube and only weighs 38lbs. I compared it to the Velo Impact 10..no contest. I won't be back in San Diego until Monday, I'll take some pics once I'm back.

Sorry... you're correct. I didn't look at the Plus series as it was over my budget. I was originally looking at the SVS NSD series, so I assumed that the other SVS subs would be larger. My bad...

Another vote for the SB12+ from SVS...

If its a great sub for both movies and music.... It may not reach as low as the ported subs, but I can attest to its impact - its tight and controlled and offers tons of punch !!!

Does it hit the low notes.... less then 20hz... no... it rolls off drastically under 20 hz, but that doesn't mean its not potent... it is...

bought one for my son and compared it to my F112 - and I was impressed with it capabilities... a very competent sub IMO

JL Audio 10W7 with a Behringer EP2000 would suit the situation nicely. You could probably do both within your budget.

Otherwise, the JL 8w7 in a vented enclosure with a 500 watt BASH plate amp would work really well.

Those work well if DIY is an option of course.

Any of the Audiopulse drivers work well also.

This sealed sub has gotten great reviews with regard to its music performance - considered a very clean, articulate sub.

Energy ESW-V10

I have the Mirage Prestige S10, which is the same sub as the Energy ESW-V10....it's a very clean sounding ported sub, provided you can give it proper placement (ie, don't stick it in the corner). These subs are often overlooked due to everyone going the ID route...and I would agree that for an MSRP of $800, there are much better options....but given the closeout price, it's definitely an amazing performer for $300.

Elemental designs is also releasing some new sealed subs...They'll have a 10" in a small enclosure - about a 13.5" cube. I have chatted with them a bit, and while they aren't up on the website, you can order one now for an intro price. Normal price should be around $350-$375 shipped. Given the intro pricing, you may also be able to go with their sealed 12", although the cabinet size will be a bit bigger.

Aperion is a another option. It doesn't hit as low as many others, but great for music and their cabinets are beautiful.
